Parkview & BMW Toronto - fees on car buying and leasing

Can anyone make a comment of bogus fees that these dealers and others as well have now listed on their cars.

I had bought mine car from BMW Toronto about 3 years ago and the only fees that they charged at that time were:
dealer admin fee
Freight and pdi
ac tax
omvic

No full tank of gas (included in the car)
No wheel lock (included in the car)

Now, a blogger got a quote (for a M5) and they are listing these fees as mandatory -

DEALER OPTIONS AND CHARGES
Ride Green = $399.00
CARPET MATS = $130.00
Freight = $900.00
PDI = $1,295.00
Admin Fee = $299.00
Ontario Tire Stewardship = $23.36
Air Conditioner Excise Tax = $100.00
Green Levy = $3,000.00
OMVIC transaction fee = $5.00
Gas/Wheel Locks = $139.00
License Fee = $100.00

OP: confirmed. the $404 below equates to $399 + $5. There was a time when the Quinn Group of dealerships was the only recommendable dealer in the GTA... not anymore. They've been infiltrated.

If you're interested, you can speak to my SA and see what he can do for you?

Sometimes some of these can be waived.

PM me if u guys are interested.

Good luck!

From what I remember, Maz was the "negotiation king" so it may be worthwhile to see if his sales guy can be worked over and beat up for you like he was for Maz

I bought my car from Parkview almost 2 years ago and only paid for the following:

AC tax
License Fee $150 (told them to buy me a 2 year sticker)

Car came with a full tank of diesel
Wheel locks free
Carpet mats free (thought these were standard?)
Winter mats free

I only deal with the Sales Manager

Was there back in December and the SA didn't mention any of those fees listed, if they are that's horrible.

The ride green fee = nitrogen air in tires.

If I were to make a deal TODAY with the Quinn Group, I would have simply negotiated with the bottom line, meaning crossing out all these bogus fees + x% off the listed price. If they don't like it, there are other dealers out there.

Both Parkview & BMW Toronto & BMW Waterloo are no longer the preferred dealers in my book with that kind of sales practice.

Well I got this from my Dad. He's been negotiating multi-million dollar projects for corporations all around the world.

And now even at work, I'm pretty damn good negotiating with my clients.

Guess it runs in the family? :

In addition to the BS quotes listed below, I've also gotten the following line in a Quote from Parkview.

Window Tint - 3,5,6 series, X1 = $499

This should be totally optional, but including it up front?? I think if a customer simply ask for a quote, they'll just tack on as much as possible unless you read deep into it and spot these BS charges out.

I'm very disappointed with the practice and professionalism here...

FYI below. both quotes were given to me by Parkview in March over 2 different visits. one quote is more robbery than the other.

I believe the ”green levy” is government required tax/fee which is equivalent to the gas guzzler tax charged in the US on vehicles that achieve below a certain level of fuel economy.

Haha Maz I have 2 daughters, one is as cheap as her old man and the other one has no problem spending and buying whatever she wants!

Those etching, nitrogen, green and fuel fees are BS. I always just negotiate based on the "on the road price" so they are free to charge me those BS fees on paper as long as they are taken off somewhere else.

The Canadian 2012 M5 (F10) Product Planning Bulletin Guide has clearly stated that the Green Levy does NOT apply to the F10 M5.

So the sales guy is either inexperienced or playing dumb trying to take advantage of those customers who doesn't keep up on these things...

Go elsewhere. Once I lose trust in them, even if they sweeten the deal, I can't abide by that.

I'd lose respect for them because, its obvious - THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOU.

Orich,

that green levy fee of $3000. Call up BMW Canada to see if this is a total bs or not. If it is, then report this to them for further action.

Agreed, if they are charging a government imposed fee that is not applicable to the car I would definitely take your business elsewhere.

the M5 has almost identical fuel efficiency rating as the 550 /X5/X6 (which is around 14-16L/100km). Therefore, if this is showing on the M5, then the 550 would also be applicable as well.

I need to get to the bottom of this green levy business for M5, unless they are just charging green levy for M5 because it's a M car regardless of actual fuel consumption. The Canadian gov site stated green levy tax is all for 2008 models so it's really outdated.
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/whtsnw/tms/lst_vh-eng.pdf

FYI quote below I got from Parkview on the 650xiGC as I was comparing with the M5. No green levy here, although the 650xiGC has a even more powerful V8 than the current 550xi, which will get this same engine after 2014 LCI.

I have found a 2012 list. 2013 list is not available (cannot find).

Clearly, the M5 has identical fuel consumption rate as the 550 and yet it has $0 levy on it (based on 2012 list)

http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/transportatio...gs-results.cfm

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/et/et...h-2012-eng.pdf

Therefore, Parkview needs to show you proof the M5 is on that 2013 list or else, they are taking uneducated consumers for a ride. $ goes to the dealer without gov't knowing it.
