Rusty Seat Frames on Canadian F30 Sedans?

Just wondering if any Canadian F30 sedan owners have had rusty seat frame issues??? I'm picking up my new F30 328i Sportline in a few weeks and will be definitely inspecting the seat frames for corrosion!!!

A response from the UK!
I've been given to understand that cars built in Germany on 29-10-2012 (BW44) and afterwards have had this issue resolved.
In 2012, I bought two identical F30 330d M Sports BW44 and BW48 and there is no rust ........... YET!

rusty seat frames are totally unacceptable on a $50000 plus car!! I would insist that BMW installs new ones ASAP!!

Agreed! I'm afraid now.

Can someone please elaborate as to exactly where the rust can be seen? I'm kinda confused...

Dam, I thought we don't get those problems, only on cars built outside Germany the problem exists.

But I'd like to know where to look too...

Mine was built August 2012 and had rusty seat bases and also rusty seat hinges. After going in last Wednesday the seat bases and hinges have been swapped over and the rust is gone.

The rust is on the underneath of the seat so to see it you really need to take a photo of them to save a lengthy stay in the A&E department

I've attached the before and after of my seats.

Built in Munich 09/12. Rust city, got them replaced after having to go through BMW Canada. Initially my dealership said it was a "normal" issue. BMW Canada got them to replace them after I emailed them the pictures. They then put a minor scratch on my door sill on installation but fixed it like new. It was an annoying saga but BMW Canada responded appropriately to the issue. Good luck to the rest of you!!

Crazy!
What happened? Did someone leave them outside in the rain or something before they reached the factory?

I can't describe what I was feeling after I found out.

Very disappointed with BMW right now. German quality?!

Just do it Maz! The way I see it, better to have the car in the shop while the weather is still crappy.

Used my iPhone to take pics. Both seats are rusty and after only 5 months of use. They must have installed them with some rust on, otherwise I cannot explain it.

Makes me wonder, what else don't we know about?

Easy way to check is look at the hinges where your seatbelt attaches to the seat. If there's rust there unfortunately you have your answer. I was in the same boat and told myself I wouldn't look but on a sunny day I was getting into the car and I could see the rusty seat belt hinge.

The hinges look fine in my car. However, under the seat, rust is accumulating. It might reach the hinge eventually, but it hasn't yet.

I have contacted BMW Canada. This was their reply:

Thank you for contacting BMW Canada. We appreciate your inquiry.

We apologize for the rust issue you are experiencing in your vehicle. We ask that you contact your local BMW retailer to set up an appointment. Once the vehicle is at your retailer and after the inspection is completed, please speak with the Service Manager. He or she will contact their appropriate representative within BMW Canada for more information at that time.

If you have any further comments, please reply to this email or contact the Customer Interaction Centre at 1-800-567-2691. Again, thank you for contacting BMW Canada.

I also asked for an explanation on the issue and all my other questions were ignored. Hence, I took this matter further to BMW AG:

Thank you for your message.

We have forwarded your complaint to the relevant department for assessment.

Best regards,
BMW Group Customer Service Team

I will post further replies as they come in. I am not letting this go because I feel cheated. It is an issue that is invisible until you go and look for it.

Good! Do as much as u can.

I've spent the weekend busy moving to a new house and this afternoon will be checking my car.

I'm so scared as I really don't want to visit the speakership again and again...

Let us know what happens in ur case. I'll do likewise soon.

Good luck bud!

Just picked up my 328i x-drive luxury line last week. Attached are pics of my seats. One of the very first things I noticed when I test drove it were the unpainted/exposed hinges between seat bottom and back. My dealer is having the seats replaced for me.
