Has anyone order has been delayed. Hi to all I'am new to the forum. I'm from NJ. I place the order October 26, so far the OC still on order. I contact the dealer they sayed that BMW has an aluminum shortage and the car will not be on production until the first week of January . Anyone with similar problem?

I had a 325i on order that got delayed for four days in QC. It is very possible it was beacasue of the aluminum trim shortage. |

I ordered in late October and STILL don't have a production number - I'm told I won't have it till "mid- to late-December", with production in January and delivery in February.
Can anyone tell me why on earth I can't get a production number within a month of putting down a hefty ($3k) deposit? This is making less sense to me every day.

This is a real interesting topic for discussion.
I did some research here in Southern California, and called a number of dealerships, most of which indicated that it would take a minimum of 8 weeks (if not longer) to get my ordered car here. When I contacted dealerscost.com, the owner (Bijan) told me that they deal with only the larger dealerships and because of this, they would be able to expedite the production of my 330i. This is because the larger dealerships constantly order vehicles throughout the year to maintain their inventories of cars. If a vehicle, say a 330i, is already on order (i,e., in line to be scheduled for production), the dealership can quickly change the color and options to your specs. In my case, a Black colored 330i with tan interior/alum trim was changed to my requested Sparkling Graphite 330i with Black Interior, Wood Trim, 6MT, DVD Navi, etc.. I ordered the car on a Friday from dealerscost, and it went into production the following Tuesday (4 days later). It will be completed on 11/29/05. You might want to check with other dealerships in your area, or call dealerscost.com. The place you ordered your car from might be yanking your chain? |

Welcome to the board.
We ordered our E91 on August 15, knowing that production would not begin until after Labor Day (US). Our car was in the first production week and everything went right on schedule. I doubt the wagon makes any difference in production time or scheduling, other than a day here or there if even that. The aluminum trim issue has been debated here before, and while I'm skeptical about a "shortage", there may be QC issues with it that cause delays (they would much rather say "shortage" than "quality problems"). You might want to reconsider that aluminum trim - it dents and scratches very easily. I won't debate personal taste, but I personally wouldn't want it for that reason alone. If your car is not yet scheduled you could probably make that change through your dealer and get it bumped up. As far as overall time, it took our E91 almost exactly 8 weeks, just as we were told. Bigger dealers may have some tiny influence (mostly on getting themselves bumped ahead on the production schedule), but I seriously doubt they can make the ship captain push the throttle, etc. Expect 8 weeks from start of production.

BMW dealers get their allocation two months prior to production. i.e., January allocation = March production. It sounds like they are going to give you a February production (Dec. allocation) vehicle which would be a March delivery, dependant on your location. |

When I was waiting for my car, my dealer told me that I had just missed a major delay because of the Aluminum shortage. He said BMW was having some problem with the distributor, and that all cars with Al were going to be pushed back about a month. Fortunately, my car was spared and I picked it up on 11/21.
