BMW Mount for Nuvi 350/360?

Does anyone have additional information about the BMW Portable Navigation System (part no. 65-90-0-429-401) or the Installation Kit (part no. 65-90-0-429-403). I found these on www.circlebmw.com/parts/acc.htm ....search under e90 navigation.

Also, a manual is located at http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/BMW3-...nersManual.pdf

I'm very interested in the installation kit, as I already own a Garmin Nuvi 350. Seems steep at $145, but if it hard-wires the gps cradle it might be worth it.

Thanks.

Looks like a good product... Someone should try doing this! I'd just be concerned as it looks like you have to drill holes through the trim for the mount...

Nice find. I'd consider this for my 370, but I'd prefer to be able to remove the mount easily.

It's not clear how it's hardwired, or even how the mount attaches to the dash. On p. 51 of the manual, they mention removing the mount to avoid theft, which implies the mount comes out easily. But then on p. 2 they mention a cover for the mount when not using the gps.

I hope that the mount is clipped to the dash trim (so it doesn't damage the dash) and is hard-wired, but I sent an email to Circle BMW earlier today to try and get some more info. I doubt it is removable....I think that is why a cover is shown on page 2...if you could remove it why have a cover? I bet the note on page 51 is a carry-over cya note from the standard Nuvi manual.

Let us know what they say. It looks like the mount will be screwed into the trim... and maybe the wire runs back there too?

just make sure you can remove it when you leave the car. These things are good drug money for the thieves and get stolen a bunch, with the resultant broken glass

+1 That's one reason I want the mount easily removable. Even if you take the nuvi with you, the empty mount says "trash my car looking for it."

Plus an empty mount looks like hell.

Installation Instructions for BMW Garmin Nuvi Mount

Well Circle BMW emailed me the installation instructions for the Nuvi mount and it answered my questions:

1. The mount is screwed to the dash....so, definitely NOT removable.
2. The mount is hardwired into the car for power.

PDF with the installation instructions is attached.

I don't like the idea of screwed to the dash I prefer the Kuda mounts they are removable cheaper and great quality

i read the instruction for installing the Kuda mount. it requires you to pop your wood trim out a bit. I am afraid I am going to screw up this part:mad: can someone tell me how difficult is it to pop the wood trim? I don't want to crack it

Thanks

Piece of cake actually. Just start from the left end of the wood trim, insert something like butter spreader wrapped in cloth and pry. The trim is not wood actually but very thick and sturdy piece of plastic.

I actually used the "gap opener" tool from brodit (http://proclipusa.com) for both the dash trim and the dash top cover.

Is it possible to hardwire a Garmin so that it powers up when the car is started? The Garmin comes with a cigarette lighter adapter, but it's really big. I guess a radio shop can cut the head and build in some fuses/relays (whatever the hell they're called) and connect it directly to the car's electrical?

It could be done very much like how this guy hard wired his V1: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...981#post248981
