yeah the escort 9500 is what i would get now...the same proven detecting skills as the 8500...plus gps...
i cant drive without the 8500 anymore...i just feel so vulnerable without it |

9500, reducing false alarms is KEY to making sure you actually hit the brake when the real alert comes, no other detectors do that, and the 9500 does it perfectly
v1 has the same detection ability, arrows are useless |

is escort cheaper than V1? The V1 runs $399 right? do these things block detection as well or just inform you of a radar presence?

I believe they just inform. I have an 8500 and I think that it's great. Wouldn't mind trying out the V1 except I have heard that it falses more than the escort.

Ive had an 8500 for about a year now and picked up a V1 today. I have both in my car and will be testing them for the next few weeks.
From what I have gathered driving around for the last hour, both have plenty of false signals from alarm systems/automatic doors. They both pick them up with very similar ranges. Whether this is better or not I am not sure, but the V1 provides more information on the alerts. Beyond the direction, it also counts/tracks up to 8 radar sources with the strongest signal in front. This is a nice feature as you have better information on what might be a real signal.

For the 9500 owners...have any of you experienced issues with the GPS not "saving" an overidden false alarm location or if saved not being precise enough to differentiate a true radar signal that is close in proximity to a overidden false signal? Ive read quite a few complaints in these areas.

There are several devices that claim to JAM radar. The devices made by Rocky Mountain Radar that claim to do this are worhtless and do not work, Active radar jammers are illegal. There are several devices that claim to jam laser. These devices (Blinder, Passport are 2 manufacturers) work, Some work better than others, There are also devices such as NavAlert that are GPS units that have built in datbases of the locations of red light cameras and speed traps and warn you when you are approaching one. www.radartest.com is a good source of information. One more thing...
The V1 has three sensitivity setting...something like All, Logic, and Logic+. The Logic+ compares to Automatic mode on the 8500 as far as reducing false alarms. They are nearly identical in this respect from what I have seen so far.

duh..again the silly over glorified V1 debate...few years ago i got a $30 Cobra and it safe me every single time..i did not go around glorifying that its the best.. If you're doing 150mph in a 50mph zone, no radar detector can safe you. IMHO, i think both escort and v1 is pretty much comparable.

there is some quirkyness to saving signal locations. For example if you know of a speed trap area and there happens to be a radar signal you cant mark that location as a speed trap?????
I got two tickets recently.. one was a paced ticket so the radar didnt even detect anything. The second ticket I forgot my radar detector at home and he caught me on laser. Just bad luck I guess. I do love the 9500 as it detects the signal fairly early when using properly. Quote:
