Break Squeal

For a few weeks now, I've noticed that every morning my breaks squeal until they warm up (I assume this is what is happening). I am wondering is this happening because of the cold or because of the winter tire package I recently put on or are my breaks just crap?

Its the moisture thats stuck on your breaks. when they evaporate the squealing goes away.

This has been happening to my brakes for about a month or so now. It's definitely moisture related. I just wish there was a solution for it because it's the kind of squeal that goes straight into your teeth.

I read somewhere on here that someone with brake squeal got good results by placing a dab of high-temp grease on the back of the pad where it contacts the piston.

Moisture? Is there evidence to support a moisture claim?

I'm betting its simply the pad material glazes as it cools from your previous drive. This cooled/glazed coating needs to warm up and wear off before the squeal goes away.

From others on this forum, it seems that most claim the squeal subsides after 1K-2K miles.

Well, I think my breaks were crap to begin with. But thanks for all your replies on the brake squeal.

I hope it goes away eventually because it's very painful to go through my neighbourhood each morning with this squeaking sound coming out of my brand new car.

I've spent the last month or so observing this. The brakes squeal when it rains or is otherwise damp out, but I haven't noticed it on dry days. Perhaps it occurs less frequently in dryer weather. In every case the squeal goes away after first few brake presses.
