Smartphone and PDA Phones
I am currently using the Blackberry 8300/Curve with my car. It has been perfect so far and seems to be the most reliable in connecting with the vehicle. Even my Blackberry 8800 would freeze on a regular basis, either while connected to the car or after disconnecting, and it is a supposedly higher end device.
I am interested in other smartphones though and would like to know what others with similar cars are using. I am seriously interested in the Nokia E61i and Nokia E90. I would love to find something that has GPS in it so I could have that option no matter whose car I get into... |

I'm not so sure that any of the newer Nokias are a good idea with newer BMWs. For some reason, they don't seem to work together over bluetooth very well, or at all.
I bought a Nokia E61. I am running BlackBerry Connect on it, MS Exchange Push as well, and the device works properly in every way but one. It will pair with my car but will not "connect" with it. I have nver gotten the phone to connect to the car. Not once. Others with similar Nokias have experienced the same problems with their BMWs. It seems the problem is with the phones and not the car, since the car works with every other phone I have tried, and Nokia has not offered any update to fix the problem. I love this E-series phone but it might be going to someone else very soon if this doesn't get fixed...unless I add a second line with a new phone just for the car (which I have thought about doing anyways). |

My BlackJack works fine most of the time. Every now and then it'll freeze up while initially connecting with the car. I'll say 98% of the time it's pretty good though.

shipill -- do you have the N95? Does it work properly with your car? Does it pair, connect, transfer address book, and make/receive calls?
The US 3G version of the N95 is coming out soon and if it doesn't work with the E9x, I am not buying it. I tested the "classic" N95 with older firmware (and older PROGMAN software in my E90 as well) and it was a no-go... Had to return it to the Nokia Store (sadly). More details, please! Thanks.

My N95 will constantly drop the BT signal, even with the latest firmware updates from Nokia.
I had a N80 and it worked perfectly in the E92. But the N95 will not sync correctly. I am also now looking for a new phone to use till they can fix the Nokia bug at BMW. SG

I had a cheap motorola E815 non smart phone that had flawless bluetooth.
My current Palm 700P is OK with the connection, but constantly displays wrong call information (shows previously dialed number when a new call comes in) and only syncs favorites list.
