Automatic seat call not working?
I set up the automatic seat call to work when I unlock the doors but the seat does not move to my memory setting. Do I need to do something else to have the mirrors and seat automatically adjust to each key fob?

As I understand it, the key fob remembers the seat/mirror setting used when that key fob last used the car. That may or may not be the memorized seat/mirror setting that you set (e.g. if someone else used your key fob.)

My automatic seat functions works properly. What doesn't work quite right are the buttons on the seat. I have to "push and hold" to get the seats to move to the defined memory position.
I don't have iDrive, so I can't comment about activating this feature if you do. But you do have to tell the system to move the seat when you unlock the doors. I use the control stalk to select the menu which shows a key shape with a check-mark over it and push in on the end button. Scroll down through that menu until you see the symbol that shows a seat with an arrow on it and press the end button again. It will now give you three options, depicted by symbols: unlock symbol, driver door open symbol and "off." If you choose the unlock symbol, the seat will move when the door is unlocked. If you choose the driver door symbol, it will move when the door is opened. "Off" should be obvious. I think the factory default is "off." You can find this info here on page 38 and 39: E90 Owner's Manual PDF Anyway, I've got CA and when I programmed the seats to the FOBs, I did the following: 1.) Get in and close door. 2.) Insert FOB into the Dash 3.) Start engine (as in, motor running.) 4.) Adjust seat and mirrors to desired setting 5.) Press "Memory" button then press "1" 6.) Turn off engine, remove FOB 7.) Repeat 1-6 for FOB #2, using seat position 2. I'm not sure you have to do all those steps exactly, but that is what I did, and it works.

Nice, I'll give this a shot. But as far as having to hold the memory button to move the seat to the stored position, I read on a different thread that this is only necessary with the ignition on as a safety precaution. If you press your memory seat button with the ignition on it should move into place without having to hold it down.

The seat will move into position without having to hold the button down if you press it while the door is open or the car is in accessory mode (I think that's what it's called). So you can either press the button before closing the driver's door or press the start button once without your foot on the brake to get it into accessory mode and then hit the memory button before starting the car. Kind of awkward, but I've gotten used to it since I have 1 button set for easy entry/exit in my vert.
Just wish the steering wheels tilt/telescoping features were power and stored in the memory settings too. |

Sadly, no. Neither is the lumbar setting.

Correct me if I'm missing something, but does anybody else find it a bit irksome that the memory buttons are tied to 2 separate remotes? A passenger (like a girlfriend or your wife) can't just switch places with you and pull up their own settings by pressing the button assigned to them. That means the passenger has to carry along the 2nd remote.

Of course, if you leave the seat in her position and then lock the car with your fob, the next time you open the car, the seat will not move to your settings - you will need to press the No. 1 button. That's how mine works when the wife drives me home from the pub. (We share the driving - I drive there and she drives back )

Does anyone know whether the dealer has to activate this feature. Mine doesn't work. Also, does one need CA for this feature to work?

I think you actually have to configure this in the i-drive settings. I believe you have to go into your car settings and you can specify whether or not your seats change position through last memory or when unlock your car (or something along those lines).

Yeah I need to check this in i-drive again because the 1 & 2 buttons aren't moving the seat. My CA set it up in i-drive for me when I picked up my car. IIRC, i-drive gave us 2 choices - either the seats move when you unlock the car, or seats move when ignition is turned on. Maybe that's not exactly it, but anyway I chose the first option and it ain't happening.

ok, so I go out to the car to check this morning and buttons 1 & 2 move the seat properly. This is with me sitting in the seat with the car unlocked (did not lock it last night), the door open and without inserting the remote. So I guess following the instructions yesterday worked when I was trying to set the memory, I just wasn't doing something right as a final step to activate it.

The seat settings are stored using the buttons on the seat itself (it is explained in the manual). As tryangles said, you then go to Idrive, press the controller down to enter the car settings menus and then find the appropriate menu (I am typing from memory and cannot remember exactly where to go - but once you see it will be obvious!!) and tell the car when you want the seat to move - either when unlocking or when opening the door. NOTE: You need to do this for both key fobs!! The seat will only move if it is not in the same memory position as when the car was locked with a particular key fob. There is definitely no requirement to visit your dealer - which you had to do with the previous model E46. Hope this helps.

now I know that I am not wasting my time trying to get it to work as I thought. I figured that with the setting I have, if I move the seat to a random position when I get out of car and lock it, that when I re-enter the car and put fob into ignition, it should set my seats back to one of my memory positions (that's how other cars work that I've witnessed). Either my expectations are wrong, something is broken (unlikely) or I don't know what I am doing. |

After getting some work done at the dealer, they erased the seat memory, after playing for weeks to find the best position. When I got back in the car and pressed the memory button (1), the seat moved all the way back, obviously not to my stored position. Now, I am afraid to push the button, cause I again have found a good position....
