Does any1 know how many watts the Logic 7 has, im asking as im considering forking out for the 800 odd watt Individual hifi

The current Logic 7 system in the E9x is rated at 420W.

Logic doesn't come with Premium package does it? If it's only 420 watts and cost over 700 as an option then I might as well just do a custom job also.

Depends on your location. Logic 7 with 420W is standard in the 330/335 models and a standalone option on the 325/328 if you are in the USA.

Depends on your location. I don't think the price is out yet. But I guess if you are in Norway, it'll cost quite a bit.

Pure wattage doesn't tell a thing! Its no indicator of sound quality.
The logic 7 is a great system, and both Logic 7 and High End System are customized for the car. You won't get a better system for the money anywhere.

From the 09/2007 german pricelist (E9x):

Logic 7: € 1,180,-

High End: € 2,100,-

Not too much IMO. It has to be plain awesome, according to some E6x owners.

So it looks like the high end system will be about 80% more than the Logic 7.

You are correct in stating that total wattage is meaningless. It is the "quality" of the watts that counts. A good 100w amp will sound good; a bad 100w amp will sound bad - plain and simple.

BTW, You would unlikely hear any difference between brand "A"'s 100w amp and its 150w amp, assuming that the components were similar. In order to obtain twice the volume of specific amp, you need ten times the wattage! In other words, to double the volume of a 100w amp, you need a 1,000w amp.

With respect to your comments on the Logic 7 (and respect to you as well :-) ), I think that the L7 is gawd awful. When test driving cars in the Spring, I listened to the stock Business hunk of garbage and the Logic 7 system. To my ears, the L7 was marginally better than the stock unit and nowhere near audiophile quality.

The better after market stereos from Alpine, Pioneer and Kenwood will blow the socks off of the L7. The only stock stereo system that I would not haul out of my vehicle would be the Mark Levinson ones that are only available in various Lexus models.

Just my 2 cents (Canadian; now worth 2 cents U.S.!!!)

it doesn't take 10 x the power for a perceived doubling in volume. 10x the power is a 10db increase, not a 6db increase (which is a perceived doubling in volume). 6db would require a quadrupling of power.

and btw, for what it's worth, I design high end a/v systems for a living (often six figures), and I consider the logic 7 system to be pretty good. we have a lexus(it is older) and I consider the logic 7 to be leaps and bounds better than the system in that. It's certainly good enough that I am not going to go ripping a new BMW apart to change it. And I've had some pretty big, high end car stereos in the past (I actually held a db drag racing world record for a little while, and designed 4 other record holders). Is it the loudest system? no, but loud enough for regular use. Will it flex windows? No, but I don't know that I'd want that in this kind of car anyhow. Good balance, good detail, good soundstage. Way better than you could do for taking the extra money you spend on it and buying aftermarket equipment.

Isn't it 3db?

I had always thought that going from say 110db to 113db, it would be twice as loud. As in every 3db is doubling the output?

More than you want to know here. From that link:

The sone is derived from psychophysical measurements which involved volunteers adjusting sounds until they judge them to be twice as loud. This allows one to relate perceived loudness to phons. A sone is defined to be equal to 40 phons. Experimentally it was found that a 10 dB increase in sound level corresponds approximately to a perceived doubling of loudness. So that approximation is used in the definition of the phon: 0.5 sone = 30 phon, 1 sone = 40 phon, 2 sone = 50 phon, 4 sone = 60 phon, etc.
