Track listing with CD

I have the standard HiFi system and I don't get track listings when I play CDs. Is this correct? I get them fine when I attach my IPOD or play music through a USB drive.

Do you mean track numbers or song names?
AFAIK, most CD's still do not include meta-data

Normal CDs don't have those.
You'll only get those if you make your own CDs and fill them with mp3s (so no converting of mp3s to cda-tracks when burning).

Do normal audio CDs have a way to store meta data (I thought so).

If so, does the BMW system support reading & displaying that data?

That's a little disappointing. Several cars we cross-shopped had a local copy of the Gracenote database, and could use that to display the song metadata for most CDs. It's nothing we can't live with, since we hardly every play CDs anymore.

But CDs give better audio quality than even lossless rips.
