Could you post pics? Did you take your wheels off to do the D1S?

I own an '07 e90 and was able to do without removing the wheel or jacking the car. Turned wheel so I could access a small plastic door in the wheel well, then worked from above and below with tools and hands to remove.

There is a DIY on the site that shows how to do it but I think the OP removes the wheel.

I tried to do this last night and even with the wheel removed I couldn't get the headlight housing door off.... I think there are 2 clips up top and 2 below. Felt like I was going to break it. I had the wheel off, too.

Thanks. I just thought you could do it from the engine bay because you can see the ballast screws

I think its better to take the wheels off for better access , im sorry i wasnt able to take some pix , anyway ill post the website where i got the DIY ., you can use a flat scewdriver and unclip the top just put the flat scewdriver inside the clip and that will do it , you can lso unclip the bottom first if you would like , the bulb is easy to replace just use a longnose pliers or bare hands if you like heres the website for better understanding

maybe you can(?). I researched the DIY, originally thought I must remove the wheel and was happy to find I didn't need to. Never thought of trying everything from the engine bay.
Best part of the DIY is, with the wheel off and wheel well removed, you get a great look at where everything is. Helps you visualize where you are as you work the way I did (or perhaps how you may try?)
