Seattle -- US-101 Skokomish / Quilcene

For those of you who haven't ventured out that way this year, I'd highly recommend the US-101 route between Skokomish and Quilcene. I hit it up earlier this morning and it was relatively traffic free (only had to overtake 3-4 times). There were a few campers out there, which I only expect to get worse as the summer driving season begins in earnest.

The bit north of Quilcene before WA-104 was especially wide open, and seems to have recent pavement and several nice straight sections sans houses/intersections for those (ahem) stability tests .

Highly recommended for anyone in the sound area.

Good idea, I haven't been on that stretch in years. Keep going south and you run into some nice little towns too.

Did you see much traffic coming back towards Seattle? I'd avoid that stretch on a Friday afternoon But, it is quite fun. 101 heading from Port Angeles to Neah Bay is very scenic and fun, but can be a bit dangerous.

To be honest, southbound wasn't appreciably busier than northbound. The ferries back from Bainbridge filled toward the end, but I had no problem getting a spot around 1PM yesterday. The spot on WA-104 from US-101 to the Bainbridge terminal was substantially busier, but I presume that's also due to the fact that it's (a) on the way to the ferry terminal and (b) on the way to the substantially more populated Bainbridge island.
