iPod Issues w/ new 335i

Just tried hooking up my (older) 3rd generation iPod to the USB interface and I get "Error" when I try to switch over to the USB when switching audio sources. (No iDrive). I have the 20gb model with about 10gb of music on it. I've tried using the USB cable BMW provides - still the same problem.

Here are my assumptions:

1. I ONLY need to hook up the USB - Do I have to hook up the auxillary audio cable too?
2. The USB will charge the iPod - it doesnt even seem to be charging it - isn't it supposed to?

Any help would be appreciated.

PS - I searched all the forums, but couldnt find any of these answers! Thank you!

Ipod Problems

I have a 07 335i with no iDrive and I have the same problem. Not only do I get the error message it somehow discharged the battery in my Ipod and mine is the latest 5g.

The dealer has no answer for this. Have you tried using the BMW cable as well as your own ipod usb cable? I haven't found a difference but if you wait longer it will load but still won't play.

Will keep looking for answers.

I've used BMW's cable, but I dont know if it's right... it's about a foot long and it seems to be just a USB extension cable. I've tried this along with my own iPod cable, same problem.

Do I have to use the auxillary port too? I figured just the USB would work, am I wrong? Is there a special cable? And what is 6FL!?

I'm a pretty tech savvy guy, but I can't get this figured out!

The provided link helped with some questions eldudo, thanks!

It answered the compatibility question. My iPod is too old - 3rd generation not supported.

It also leads me to believe that the USB/Aux cable for the iPod was supposed to have been supplied by my dealer. Is this correct?

You are correct.
Check this other thread and show it to your dealer parts dept.:
