Unhappy 6FL Ipod connector dropping signal after 4-5 minutes....

I just received my e92 328 a few days ago and have the dealer installed Ipod 6FL connector. It works well, however it disconnects after every 4-5 minutes. Then I have to connect to Aux again via the Idrive. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions.

Thanks

Since you had the dealer install the ipod connector, its not 6fl.

+1. There is no such thing as dealer installed 6FL. That's like having dealer installed x Drive.

Make a service appointment to have them look at it. Could be a faulty connection somewhere.

It's possible the OP is not describing it properly, and should have stated "factory installed 6FL". There is a thread on another forum that has a number of people having the same type problem with the 6FL. Although their terminology is not 100% consistant, they describe using the USB.

Could be, but in that case he should have used the word "factory", which is neither spelled or pronounced anything like "dealer".

I'm having a lot of problems with 6FL as well. About half the time I connect my iPod Nano it will recognize it and function correctly, the other half of the time when I push the "USB" button on the radio it displays "Empty". I can't get my 4th gen. iPod video to connect at all, and I've tried pretty much everything. Both have their latest software versions, and I'm using the latest version of iTunes.

Also, is there a way to reverse through the menu's? If I'm listening to a song and want to change artist or album, when I select either of those instead of the menu starting with my current position, it starts back at the beginning of the list. It's kind of a drag when you want to switch from one Wilco album to another and having to start scrolling from the beginning again! I don't know how the system works if you've got iDrive (I don't) but personally I'm starting to think that one of the Denison integration kits might be a better option than 6FL, at least until whatever issues that apparently exist are remedied. It seems like for the limited number of cars with 6FL that have already been delivered, there are a lot of people having problems getting it to work as it should.

I did mean the Factory installed 6FL ipod option. I have the same problem josephvman. I am using a 30 gig video ipod. I looked at the other thread referenced by e92sam. This seems to be a problem for quite a few folks. No sign of a fix yet.

Right I did not say "factory", my mistake. However I did say 6FL which could have provided a clue about exactly what I am talking about. From my understanding there is only one 6FL ipod connector, but I could be wrong.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue with the 6FL. Using a 60gb video iPod and the car has iDrive. I'm using the iPod adaptor, not the USB cable. It seems very sporadic at this point. At first I thought it might be the iPod adaptor bouncing and hitting the click wheel with the iPod in the armrest holster since there's not much room inbetween, but taking the iPod out of the case and putting it in the cupholder made no difference; nor did locking the iPod after it was connected..... I assume I have progman 25.1.1 since it was an early April production and I don't have any issues with VC or RTTI. I have one of the programmable memory keys set to the iPod, so everytime this happens I just have to hit one button and it picks up where it left off.

So far (looking for wood, upon which to knock) mine is working fine. Since it seems several people are having very similar problems, one of you should take your car to the dealer so that they can have a look-see. If necessary they will open a PUMA case.

I have a different issue w/ the 6FL option - it only plays through the passenger side speakers. CD, radio, and sirius all play fine, but the ipod only seems to be coming out through the passenger side speakers. I took it in and the dealer is going to replace the wiring harness to see if that will fix the issue.

Definately sounds like a wiring problem. Are you positive that your 3.5mm audio jack is soundly seated? If it's not in all the way you will only get one side of the audio...

Yes, I played around with it for a couple of days beacause I didn't want to embarrass myself when i took it in - but the dealer had the same issue. It was one of the options I looked forward to the most...hopefully the new harness will fix it.

Good luck then. I would think the new harness will take care of it.

I'm getting the same problem with my 6FL. Every couple of songs it goes back to FM. I've been having this problem almost ever since I've had my car which I got on April 2nd.

I just picked up my iPod cable yesterday and have experienced the same problem with my 6FL. It is very sporadic but it will switch to FM in the middle of a song. When I switch back it picks up where it left off.

Me too...I just picked up my car at PCD and drove back to Maryland 2 days ago. I had the same problem with my ipod dropping out and going to FM. Sometimes it happened in 5 minutes, sometimes it would take an hour. (Also tried my girlfriend’s ipod and duplicated the problem.)

Try another Ipod first before replacing the wiring harness.

LEDZEP, did your sticker with all the options listed include 6FL? I just took a peak at my car over the weekend that is being prepped for monday/tuesday delivery and it did not list 6FL on the sticker. I'm going to be pissed if it's not in there!!!

I actually had to buy a new one as I had one of the ancient first gen ipods (which had the same issue of only playing out of the passenger side speakers - except I couldn't see the ipod menu). I was just a little disappointed when I had the same exact issue w/ the new one..except that I can now see the ipod menu.
