335d in Philly? Possible Helix FMIC for the d!
Helix is conducting a group buy on their upgraded FMIC for the gasser 3 series, and I asked if they have ever checked the i/c on the d to see if it's the same model. They haven't, but are willing to compare for us. Is there anyone in or near Philly that would be willing to contact Alex at Helix?

Just as an FYI - I had At Speed Motorsports look over the OEM FMIC to see if a 335i-compatible upgraded intercooler would fit. They noted that it looks like the core would fit, but the end tanks may have to be changed to accommodate the different intercooler piping. Not sure if this is 100% accurate.
BMW has different part numbers for the 335d intercooler (17517800682) and the 335i intercooler (17517540035) but looking at the assembly images, the intercoolers and end tanks look exactly the same. |

I'm actually planning on looking at mine this weekend, and compare to the stock 335i FMIC. I'll report back my findings. If it's the same size, and it's just a tubing difference, it's an easy resolution, and we can assume that aftermarket FMICs from the various companies *should* work.

Maybe between Helix and Ron1n's examination this weekend, we'll find out if our i/c can use the 335i upgrade units or not. I'm sure there will be some people looking to upgrade if they know they can. |

Hey everyone! Just joined after finding this thread while looking for an intercooler for my wife's 335D. She hit a Racoon a couple of weeks ago and did quite a bit of damage. The body shop called this morning and said 3 to 4 weeks for the intercooler from Germany. I found the only one in the country and it's on it's way from CA today.
Any idea if the old punctured one could be re-cored and saved for a spare? I'll keep the old one just in case. Here's a photo of the new one before the parts guy boxed it up. Thanks Jeff |

Wow. From what I can tell there's a different part number for the D, but looking at your replacement, you should try a used one from a gas car before spending big buxx on that new one. Every shop that installs intercoolers will have stock coolers banging around. Try calling one of our installers (check this list: http://www.helix13.com/3-series-bmw/headquarters/#go) near you and see if they have a stocker for you to borrow. |

that looks the same as the 335i ETS intercooler, may have a different style coupler and be off by a tiny bit but looks like we can upgrade easily. Sweet!
Stock 335i intercooler
