First on my dealer's list (for two years now), and don't have any ordering info from the dealer. Rumor is that US release will be around March next year. I'll be at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a few weeks and see if I can get any more info.

Congrats

F10 M5 production for the US starts March 2012, so its release should be shortly thereafter.

Am contemplating on having the 2012 M5 as my next car and planning for European Delivery sometime in June 2012. I've always wanted an M5 and the driver in me keeps telling me to go ahead, however the environmentalist in me keeps whispering "2012 Fisker Karma". But I think I will let the driver in me win, he he.

Don't shoot the messenger, but I was clearly told during the Indy event, for the US "no earlier than March". In fact possible as late as June. I'm pretending I heard March!

Bmill, are you saying then to expect delivery for any U.S. orders beyond June 2012? I hope not. Anyway, I have already put in a reservation/deposit just to be a little ahead in the queue.

Here's the question. Will this late production date mean a shortened model year for the 2012's? Typically BMW takes August off, and begins production of the 2013's in September. If so, you'll take a depreciation hit 6 months after the 2012's are in.

This doesn't make sense to me. More likely they'll consider the March cars 2013's. What do you think?

Yes, per the F10 M5 schedule at http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=548052, end of production for the 2012 model year F10 M5 for the US will end in June 2012.

Here is the model year 2012 schedule for the entire M5/F10/F11 lineup:

A few follow ups. First I did show the BMW guys the chart Jason posted above. March is the earliest, not a for sure beginning of US production. Then did seem to indicate that if the production started much after March it would be 2013 model.
Remember I was not talking to marketing guys and they clearly are going to have a say!
