Question G35 People

I am really getting annoyed with all the G35 people out there. As soon as they see an E90, they wanna accelerate and race!
What is up with that? Why are those people doing this? Can't we all just get along? Plus, I am still breaking-in my engine!

My speculation:

a. Because its the one thing the G35 does better than the 330i--accelerating straight ahead.

b. Because they test-drove a 330i but couldn't swing the cash.

This is pretty hilarious. I wonder if they'll do this to me in SF Bay Area rush hour. Damn G35 pride.

not much difference in price really:

G35 6 spd - Sport, premium pack... $36K and change
330i 6 spd - Sport, Premium pack... $41K and change

I dont think it is that the racer types cant afford the BMW its that they want to **TRY** to prove that the Japanese can compete with the Germans. In straight line, yeah the G35 has the 330i, but in the corners, and under braking, the bmw makes up the difference.

It happens because G35 people know they're really driving a 350Z with different skin and a few interior changes.

I'm guessing that those particular G35 drivers have been drinking a little too much of the Infiniti "Kool Aid," so to speak, and for some reason feel the need to try and prove or justify Infiniti's claims about the G35 being a "bimmer beater," etc.

Frankly, I find it a little distasteful when one car manufacturer overtly bashes a competitor like Infiniti did with its G35 marketing campaign (The "Consider the mark benched" line in their ads, etc.). If the car is that damn good, it will speak for itself, as the E90 certainly does. When you walk into a BMW dealership, their salespeople don't start mouthing off about how much better the 3-series is than the G35 or the Lexus IS...

I know the G35 will beat a 325 off the line, but the Infiniti's handling and styling just doesn't compare. That's why I enthusiastically plunked down my downpayment on a 325 a month ago after closely considering and test-driving the G35 and the IS.

Just my two cents...

Mine did. I mentioned that the two cars I was considering besides the 300i were the M35 and the Audi A4/A6. The salesperson made disparaging remarks about both cars, which really put me off.

On the other hand, all 3 Infiniti salespeople (from 2 dealerships) had nothing but nice things to say about the BMW and the Audi, then went after what they perceived to be advantages in the Infiniti. The two Audi dealerships I visited had similar takes.

Frankly, I had to get past the arrogance of my BMW dealership to get to puchasing the car. (Except the finance department, which gave me the 5.25% I asked for, and didn't high-pressure me on the upgrades.)

I really liked the G35's acceleration, and found it to be much better than the 330i's. But the interior didn't look anywhere near as nice, and I couldn't get the luxury options I wanted. I nearly purchased the M35 (for several thousand more than the 330i), but we couldn't agree on my trade. (I don't negotiate, I price and offer.)

All-in-all, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Despite the M35's hefty feature set and fast engine, I couldn't get past paying $50k for a Nissan.

i've raced g35's and 350z before, i've only lost to 1 g35, beat or hung w/ 2 350z's, and beat about 2 or 3 g35's. the last g35 that beat me got me pretty good tho, not sure if he had any mods or if he was just an exceptional driver, or maybe both.

Street racing is for Rice Rockets. The 325 is no such thing. Just keeping it real.

Well, that's disappointing... I suppose I was hoping that the experience I had while making my round of test-drives was fairly representative, but apparently it wasn't.

The Audi salesman I dealt with put on a particularly odd display: He opened the door of an A3, grabbed hold of it and hung off of it and said, "Try this on a BMW and you'll tear the damn door off!" And salesmen from other dealers went on and on about how BMW was losing a lot of its marketshare, etc. The BMW saleswoman, in contrast, complimented the other models I was considering, saying they were "very good cars." I know all salespeople are trying to say whatever they think will most likely make you want to buy one of their cars, but I certainly preferred her approach -- Confidence makes a much better impression than arrogance.

At any rate, I'm sure that kind of thing varies from dealership to dealership, even salesman to salesman, and probably isn't at all uniform, as I initially suggested, throughout any particular manufacturer's dealerships.

PS, sorry guys -- I didn't mean to hijack your G35 thread!

Different sales have different approaches. Some buyers are arrogant and like to listen to them mouth off other brand names
