AW? E92? CSL Bootlid? Get in here, please!
Hi all. Currently have a Vorsteiner CSL bootlid on my AW E92 non-M sport, and it currently has the lip and the license plate surround in exposed CF. The look is far too boy racer-y and over the top for me (cop harassment ftl), and I have it prepped for paint. However, I cannot decide whether or not I want to paint just the lip and leave the license plate surround exposed, or if I just paint the whole thing. Oh, and I have the OEM rear bumper, and have no plans on changing it to M-sport any time soon, so I would STRONGLY prefer if people who have the stock, non-M sport rear bumper and CSL could post up. SO...if you...
Have an AW E92 with the stock, non Msport rear bumper, and have a CSL bootlid that is either fully painted, or is fully painted except for the license plate surround...PLEASE POST PICS! I'm painting on Saturday, and really need to make this decision. Thanks! Car as it currently sits, for reference. The lip is getting painted, no matter what...the question is whether or not to paint the license plate surround. If I don't, the surround will be filled in a little bit further to give some separation from the tails.

Everyone want to show off their CF trunks. It makes sense, you spent a lot of extra money over the regular CSL trunk, but it still doesn't make the exposed cf look good, especially when it starts to yellow from sun exposure. I would paint the whole thing, if you want to show it off just open your trunk, people will notice...

I'd say all white, if you do not have any other CF on your car.

I appreciate the input, and frankly, I am strongly leaning toward painting it, I would just like to see pics of both fully painted and exposed license plate CF only, particularly on stock bumper (non Msport) cars before fully making my decision. It's relatively easy to apply paint...but if I regret it later, I will have to live with it, because going back down to the CF is pretty much impossible. FWIW, if I had an Msport bumper, I wouldn't be thinking about it, I would go full paint immediately. I would just rather not have something I don't like the look of, then have to go out and do Msport just to make it look okay. So again...any help that people could provide in the way of pics of their setups would be incredibly appreciated!

I would paint it if your asking about around the lic plate. It would look best if you repainted around the license plate and left the exposed strip on the CSL trunk. That would really be the way to go because your exposing CF in the best place and just enough of it IMO.

Thanks Craig. Your car is about the only thing between me and painting the whole thing. It looks nice and tied in with the diffuser though...gah, still confused! Anyone else? C'mon guys, it's a chance to shamelessly show off!

too each his/her own but i'm in full aggreement if you dont have any other cf paint it all... i prefer the inner license plate area to accent other cf and not break up the way the lines of the trunk flowing over into the body of the car!
Decide whats best for you... you'll get 20 different answers when u ask here, some guys dont mod and others simply have different tastes!! Good luck! |

CP-E...they came with the CP-E exhaust I have on the car.
Yeah, I know opinions are like assholes. Seems like there just aren't too many people with a painted AW bootlid and stock rear bumper. I think I'm leaning towards painting it all...

The CF strip only looks right with the MSport bumper in my opinion. See how much better craig's pic looks?
Yours doesn't look bad, I actually happen to like the look and may put a smaller bit of black vinyl on mine - but I also have a jet black spoiler and the msport bumper so it kind of matches. Without those it looks out of place. |
