ANYONE WITH HPFP problem should drop your car in BMW Seattle

as many of you guys already know, my car is modified pretty heavily (pretty much everything you can think of for auto 335i - turbo), yet i got my new hpfp and low pressure sensor replaced by bmw seattle.

i've been having this long crank issue for last 2~3 years on and off ever since i replaced hpfp by open campaign in early 2008. now my car is well over 60k miles (obviously regular warranty is gone, all i have left is hpfp coverage of 10yr/120000 miles). this winter, my car is gag up in cold start every other day so i complained again just for the heck of it when i went down there to buy some engine oils. they denied few times already in the past and i even paid for diagnose once out of my pocket so they have record of me complaining and having this problem for the longest time. i mentioned about recall on hpfp on national media coverage few months back and how i've been having this problem for long time, hence bmw should honor to replace the pump. they finally decided to replace my poor hpfp... it's been two days since the replacement work and my car fires up right away which is what it supposes to anyways but having this problem longest time, this just makes me smile on my face when i start the car...

so if there's anyone who's having this problem, do what i did and they will honor the recall and you shall get new pump.

these are part numbers on my invoice.

For the recall, does my car have to have the symptoms of hpfp failure? My car is jsut at 40k and I haven't had any problems relating to the hpfp but my warranty runs out this summer and I want to make sure that everything gets taken care of before it expires..

I just recently got my battery replaced under "goodwill", at first, they wanted to charge me $450 for the battery installation and programming. They said the battery is not covered under warranty because the reason for the battery going bad was due to "negligent driving".

HPFP warranty should be good until 100k miles, regardless of the factory warranty.

meh, I think that you should wait until you get the codes. Sounds like maybe your car has a good hpfp. Mine died at 50k.

you must either have clear symptoms that tech can verify or have codes stored. if you are under warranty, be sure to remove any and all aftermarket mods that might flag you down for the remaining warranty. in my case, my warranty is already expired long ago, i didn't bother to take any of it out. went in with every mods on my sig, they said nothing of it. hpfp related issue should be covered by 10 year, 120,000 miles whichever comes first. i wouldn't worry about the hpfp if you didn't have problem. no point of replacing perfectly fine hpfp, if you ask me...

before your warranty runs out though, i would check few things that is good to have it replaced while you have warranty.

-check steering fluid rack, i've seen number of people have leak in that area, especially with aftermarket suspension parts due to stiffer ride. this will cost well over $1000 after warranty.
-check transmission fluid pan for leak. this is also well known issue ant service bulletin is already issued. it is good idea to get it replaced before warranty expires as they will most likely flush some of your transmission oils and fill in with fresh ones (they won't flush completely with trq converters and such but to replace seals on the pan, they will have to fill in at least good 6~8 qrt of tranny oil which will cost you about $40 per qrt... don't ask me how i know this...
-check rear brake pads sensors. again, this is also well known issue. old brake sensors cause squeaking noise so if you experience this, it's good to have it check. there's no fault code for this so you must have a clear symptoms of noise to prove.
-check taillight circuit board as they revised the newer design. older design caused short to make your brake lights go out so they change the whole power board (where you plug your taillight bulbs). as far as i know, this is E92 related issue but E90 might also have this. i'm not sure.
-lastly, check misc stuff such as brake pads life, wiper blades, engine oil and get the most out of it while you have warranty.

i hope few of my tips help some...

This should be a sticky bro, you just saved me a lot of time as I was thinking about getting my car checked before warranty expires.
I only have 20K miles on mine since I bought it from BMW of Seattle CPO with 16K miles. So far no HPFP issues yet (keeping my fingers crossed) but my new car warranty will ran out in June and I know CPO warranty is not as extensive plus they have a $50 deductible every incident.

Got my pump replaced last October before the recall came out. After I received the notice for the recall last December, they ran my VIN and performed another software update. My car fires up right away ever since.

after recall announcement, they did software update but it didn't do jack shit on my car. they said i must have code present although tech was able to verify the clear symptoms on cold start after i had sat my car there for days. ultimate fix is replacing the pump itself, i know, they know so should you...

I have an 06 build E92 335i and I had my passenger taillight go out and replaced just before my warranty was up in Nov. I now am throwing a code for a taillight malfunction on the driver side. I don't think the dealer replaced anything other than the bulb before. Does this problem just cause the lights to burnout quicker (or pop), or will it cause a permanent error and problem until the board is replaced? I have about 35k miles on my car (not sure how long taillights usually last).

I need to put in an order from Tischer for a microfilter and brake sensor, so just trying to figure out if there's more I should add to the list before placing my order. (Thought my front brakes might need to be replaced until I popped the wheel off and saw the sensor wire all frayed in the middle)

afaik, the older board was faulty in design that it'll cause short more frequently than new revised design board. i had bulbs going out once in every 2~3 months while i had older board and i haven't had any bulbs went out after replacing newer taillight board. i would just go talk to SA to see if it's something they can honor with before placing an order...

You know if they would do the recall without it being a problem yet? Also who is your SA?

if you have early 2006~2007 N54 based engine, i think they will replace it with no questions asked. but then again, i had this hpfp symptoms for awhile, my SA was well aware of that but they needed code which somehow i never got.

Hey thanks dude, can you PM me Denise number? I have an SA there (no name) who usually very passive about everything (we don't warranty this, don't cover that, not in the agreement, bla bla, etc which pretty much means don't care what you think). I hope I can switch SA this time with a different car now.
