another person with a 35mm 1.8
I have to see if canon has a similar lens to this that I can pick up relatively cheap The wide angle lens looks good too (i want one of thsoe as well) modding the camera can be as expensive as modding the car at times

I like the composition. It's a unique perspective of the car you don't see very often. you can find a million pictures like the first one. Not saying that it's not a good shot, just saying that particular one is interesting.

yeah canon's 'nifty fifty' is super cheap. one of my buddies has the 35mm 1.4 for canon and it's a freakin' beast. nikon also has a 35mm 1.4 and....maybe in a few years, haha.
anyway, i think i need some bigger rims and/or some sweeter treads. that would've made that picture look pretty sweet. and i'll be honest, i actually meant to do something entirely different when i shot that picture. it's amazing what you can get when you start pointing the camera without looking into the viewfinder and jzhang, you are my inspiration my friend. i wish i could do some post-processing like you. these pictures are pretty virginal.... |

Just looked at the 35mm 1.4 looks like a great lens but ~$1400 on amazon I'll pass for now broke college student status does not afford luxuries like that lens

Canon makes a really nice 35mm f/2.0 it's around $350. It's not the 35 f/1.4L but it's nice and sharp stopped down a bit and decently fast to boot so it's great for nighttime shooting. I't on my shortlist of lenses to fill out the wide angle low light lenses in my collection.

I'll consider that soon I'm currently saving up for a 5d, to upgrade from the xsi I've been using, and to add video capabilities. Once I get that, I'll definitely pick up a few good new lenses for it

Invest in good glass before you jump to a 5D. the body won't make nearly as much difference as good quality glass. (it will make a difference, but the Xsi will take stunning pictures if you know how to use it and use good sharp lenses with it.
I rocked a T1i/500D with the kit lens, when I finally got the 50 f.1.4 and my EF-S 17-55 the image quality difference was like night and day. Everyone thought I had bought a new body, but nope just new glass. I didn't upgrade bodies until I got my 70-200 2.8 II as it just looked retarded on the little Rebel body. IMO, if you don't do a ton of landscape the 7D is a better camera even if it's a crop sensor. Better autofocus, more features, dual DIGIC 4, etc... Plus the 5D MK II is looooooong in the tooth, it's gotta get an upgrade in the next year or so.
