hahha lol that's crazy I can't believe how that much ice could accumulate on a road without anyone doing anything about it beforehand.
Love the bimmer in the end

It's up in Portland, Oregon. They RARELY get ice like that up in the streets. When it snows a little the whole town shuts down cause they really don't do much of any plowing.
I remember being the last flight in before the airport shut for three days back in '99. It was like a ghost town. Anyway, very few people in Portland have any idea what its like to drive on ice so I'll bet nobody was prepared for something like this. People just don't expect ice like that to be on the road when getting in their cars up there. I imagine the lack of plowing combined with extremely low temperatures made for a big surprise to many people. |

I take it nobody puts on winter tires in portland... except maybe that bimmer?
Driving in snow though, the weight balance on the e90 makes a tremendous difference.

there are some parts that are so amazing. Just seeing a car slide like nothing. There was that one small red or so colored car a little ways in that was stopped because it clipped the curb but then went and hit the truck. How dumb. I would stop it and just sit till i figured something out.
Wait scratch that i own a e90 so i wouldn't have to worry. |

That's right here in the hometown. I hit a curb in my element when I had nowhere to go but down a one way snowy hill. Bent the wheel in and it was horrible, nothing but ice.

The main guy in the XC volvo was 79 and obvilusly freaked out when he started sliding. To be fair, the grade is pretty signifigant where this took place. I wouldn't have attempted it if I lived in the hills. Poor old guy's declining interviews for obvious reasons, but he's become a local celebrity. Which one was the e90? And, yes, lots of PDX'ers put on studs in the winter even though it dosent even really snow here over once/yr. Thats why our roads are totaly rutted out. I see people leave them on until May, though it's prohibited after a certain date. I've never missed a day of work due to snow in Portland, and I drive 12 miles in RWD BMW's with super wide summer tires.

Unreal! - I believe most cars with summer tires.
I live in Austria near the alps - were winter was born - and i have seen only once a car which could not be stopped from skidding on a slope - a toyota mr2 on wide summer tyres. |

Scary stuff... I guess they don't use salt and/or sand either... But you'd think people would notice when walking that it's slippery, before they get in their cars

I couldn't believe how the E90 was able to make the turn where all the other cars where just sliding like there was no road. WoW WoW!

The sad thing is that this happens here... Nowhere near the extent but people in Utah know how to drive in the snow. But yesterday on my way to work there were people going 25 to 65 on the freeway. And at least 15 people that had slid out and hit other cars or the median. My max on dunlop winter sport tires did fantastic, didnt slip once.

im pretty sure theyre slipping on ice, not snow. and the first guy wasnt flooring it to hit other people, we was trying to avoid others. and you see how the third car stops then starts slidding sideways, and starts picking up speed, makes it seem that this street is going down a hill.
studded tires are loud, but u never slip, not even on ice |
