Angry INSIDELINE just wont give it a rest...

Quote:
Back in March we had it on good authority that BMW would not be doing an M version of the 1 Series coupe, but there has been a change of plans. A German Web site has run an interview with the Motorsport division boss, Kay Siegler, in which Siegler confirms that an M version of the 135i is coming.
BMW won't be calling it an M1, though, since it won't be anything like the original car sold under that nameplate. Moreover, calling this car a 135is wasn't so off-base after all, because unlike the current M3 and M5, the Motorsport 1er won't have its own unique engine -- rather, it will get a tuned version of BMW's turbocharged and direct-injected, 3.0-liter inline-6. But we don't know for certain whether it will the N54 twin-turbo version or the N55 single twin-scroll turbo version. But count on it making more than 300 horsepower.

I'm convinced this person should not be writing about BMWs. They dont have a clue what they're talking about. I mean, really.

The funniest or rather saddest part about this is that they completely missed the first interview Dr. Segler (they got the name wrong as well) gave last November. So they couldn't have it 'on good authority' back in March, let alone now.

If I were them, I wouldn't show how wrong I was by bumping that old article.

EDIT: Great comment on their site, Barry.

Best regards,
south

For this reason BMW has to say: "Here is the new BMW M1 with the new S55 3.0l I6 Twin-Scroll-Twin-Turbo engine."

Heres something else we know, the cars name will have 2 characters. Since we know it will have "M" in it, we are left with the most likely possibilities, 1M, or M2.

I always still think it will be M1, as nobody from BMW M directly said "It won't be M1". If it will be called M1, everybody will know, it is a very true M Car, and the first RWD FI M Car ever.

I'm as excited as the next guy but it has been confirmed it won't be called the m1. Not that it matters what the name is anyways.

The point is that it WILL be a "true" //M car -- and InsideLine boldly claimed it wouldn't be. And, in fact, kept ragging on everyone who said it would be an //M. Now they're partially engaged in a CYA operation instead of just manning up and saying they blew the call.

Although, that said, they're still better than TTAC.....

Scott said directly it will NOT BE called the m1.... for a guy that seems to freak out when scott gets busy and can't update... you'd think you'd have read this by now...

My vote is for "M Coupe" as the Z4 no longer has a coupe version and won't need that name anymore.

I'm thinking that as well... it'd continue that 'heritage'.

Let us better say BMW does not want to build a coupé version. Does BMW need grantursimo version of 5 Series, 3 Series and 1 Series? Does BMW need FWD versions?
If the answer is yes; BMW need to offer more niche models, then it would also be yes for Z4 Coupé. Well of course only 1 of 7 Z4 is a Coupé, but that is just what I am interested in. Funny is that Audi and Porsche do not have the same problem with the TT and Cayman.
