1///M - Quads or Not?

Now we have seen two mules without the Quads. Even if it comes with a quad, we would likely to think it's non-functional.

If that's the case does people still want a quad or prefer the current setup to save weight?

Quads on a wide bodied car with 8+ cylinders is appropratiate and looks proportional.
Quads on a narrow bodied car (like the 1er) and with a straight six under the hood is neither proportional not is it correct, it's a lot like putting a M badge on a non M car, it is just too much for the given car, like trying too hard.

I think a nice set of big bore twin pipes much like the current 135i setup is more appropriate and proportional for a smallish 1er.

Not to mention the weight saving of a quad-less system. A quad system adds a lot of extra polar weight which is even worse.

Current setup for me looks great. Personal preference.

Quads or not, I want it to sound as a racing car. M3 quad exhaust is not good. M3 Akrapovic is the best M3 exhaust in the world.

I had my heart set on quads at the beginning. I changed my mind.

It would also just add needless cost to the car

I would love an awe-inspiring sounding exhaust, without any extra cost or weight. BMW should make 2 exhaust options for those of us who can't make up our mind right now. That way, when we custom order them, we can the see the costs for everything and decide if we have the money, plus it allows us to see what they look like first to decide if we even want them.

1. Quads
2. Dual

I'm not sure I agree with that. I have a hard time seeing someone spending 50k+ Large on a BMW scrapping to add on a few items. I mean you are already spending over 2x the average car transaction.

An exhaust is a performance altering item. If they were going to include it they would probably have been testing it. Things like the power bulge can be added in last minute and not alter performance. The m5 has quads in its test mules...

On top of that, i think they need to maintain the quads on the m3 as a point to upsell from the m1 to the m3. The m1 is the "baby M" per se. Plus the chassis is so small already.

Right, but the whole point of an ///M1 is to create a cheaper entry level ///M that attracts younger buyers. Younger buyers could be anywhere from 16-30. Most people who are going to want a car that cheap don't make 50k a year, and when a basic 135i starts at 36k and with a few extra items like paint, leather, steptronic, and iDrive take it up 8k, thats a lot of money for people.

+1!!!!!!! I have heard it at WOT on a couple of M3's when they sweep at the 'ring coming through breitscheid. Sounds heavenly

Even though, the Remus setup for the E92 sounds great also.

I still dont understand this. The M3 starts at 60k before options. The M1/1M is likely to start at 49-50k before options. My point is most buying a 50k+ car make over $50,000. I would hope the majority of this car's buyers don't feel like they're reaching to buy an option like a quad or similar. Its pretty ridiculous. Its a depreciating asset. Dont forget that in reality a car that starts off at 50k is likely 53k after tax, tag, title, etc.

for me, its an issue. Im going on a military salary of just over 25k a year, with few bills. Between ins, gas, food and other things, that leaves very little money to spend on a 60m finance. However, At the end of my MOS school i will be receiving 15k as a bonus which will be about 3 months after the new ///M1 is released and i'm currently saving for this car. A few other BMW fans that are servicemen are wanting this car. They make less than me and it will be a strech. BMW has a bad habit of overpricing their products and it can hurt the average person that wants a car like this. That is why I hope they don't screw us with pricing. Their goal is a cheap ///M for entry level buyers like me. I realize the car depreciates, but that doesn't stop people from spending 110k on an m6 and a year later its 65k.

The more I think about it, it makes more sense to have a dual - unless it's for performance.

Needs quads.

How many e36 318's have you seen with M3 badges on them? Dunno bout you Americans but there are quite a few around in Melbourne. e46 M3 gave a big middle finger up to those retard try hards.

The next step I saw one day in a carpark was what appeared to me an e39 M5, bodykit, quads, everything. Until I saw it had an auto

I heard Akrapovic were currently developing an exhaust for the 135i...maybe it will be a direct bolt on for the 1///M...
