Trim Swap

I'm looking to trade out my chrome trim for the shadowline. However there will be a few days where I wouldn't have any trim on the car while waiting for the shadowline to arrive. Is my car gonna leak like a mofo during that period? I can always leave it in the garage and drive my Jeep too. =) TIA.

Why not just wait until the shadowline arrives before taking your trim off? Idk about leaking but if I had another car I'd drive that

Well i was going to swap with another poster and I would want both of us to have the least amount of delay between 'trimless' time.

Although now i'm hearing that it's impossible to remove the full chrome trim set w/out damaging it, is that true?

yea i heard its hard to remove bottom part for sedan

but if you do, i think you will be okay without the trim for a couple days.

i drive an e92 (shoudlnt make a differnece) and i was driving my car without the trim for a few days and it was fine. the rubber parts still seal so rain shouldnt matter either (for me at least)

I drove around without trim for a few days and my car was like that all winter long in the garage. Not uncomfortable at all, it might just bother you that your car might look messy. Your start button will just be hanging there, lol.

I think OP is talking about window trim not interior trim.

I'm thinking I may cheap out and just have them vinyled. No hassle with removing them, and if I ever want to go back to chrome, just pull and peel!

The bottom window sill trim consists of 2 parts. The trim itself, and a seal which the trim attaches to. Getting the trim off is easy...just use an old credit card and wedge it up. However the seal is the hard part. There is a metal strip inside the seal that is easily bendable. There is no way of removing the seal without bending it and you need to remove the seal to reattach the trim. Some have been able to reattach the trim without removing the seal but I couldn't. I removed the seal and very carefully bent it back....although I didn't get it straight, just enough to tuck it back in place. Also to get the seal out of the front doors, you need to remove the doors panels so you can remove the side view mirrors.

I made a DIY a while back for painting the trim. However after about 5 months, my trim is chipping so I don't recommend painting it. I am removing the paint this summer and vinyling it. I think you should do the same.

My DIY is attached in the 2nd post. Good Luck!

Btw, I think out doors seal to the upper trim so driving around without the upper trim would not be ok. Also the seal in the window sill, well that's self explanatory.
