iDrive + iPod + Displaying Traditional Chinese Characters

Hi all,

I don't drive an E90, but I drive an 2009 X5 3.0.

I have installed iPod connectivity in my glove box and I can select songs, playlists, albums, artists via iDrive.

It works all fine for English songs. For Chinese songs, I get all monster characters...In iTunes, all characters look correct.

I tried changing the iDrive interface to Traditional Chinese as well. The menus all become Chinese but the songs still have monster characters.

It's quite annoying because I need to guess where each song is in the playlist.

Does anyone here use iPod in their BMW and can see Traditional Chinese characters via iDrive?

Thanks everyone.

I retrofitted the ipod kit for my E90 (Japan vehicle) with 1st gen i-drive from BMWHK. Its working all fine. It can show all traditional Chinese and even soem simplified Chinese. Did you get it installed from BMWHK? I heard you have to somewhat reprogram the idrive in order to get the ipod kit recognized.

Thanks for your reply Civ0t9. I'm not too sure what generation my i-Drive is. My car was delivered end of October 2009. My iPod kit was installed by BMWHK as well when I purchased the vehicle. Everything works fine except the character display, like I can control tracks and volume via the steering wheel and via iDrive just fine.

After BMWHK retrofitted your iPod kit, did it just work out of the box for you?

I'm kinda thinking is there some kind of firmware update (like a patch) I need to apply to get traditional characters displayed. BMWHK says no such thing tho...

So if you just use Aux in, you control the songs thru the iPod itself and not thru iDrive?

So you don't see anything on the iDrive display then?

Hi civ0t9, i would like to do the same to my 2007 E90 (Jp vehicle) with CCC i-drive. Could you mind to provide me more information?
e.g. whats the part number of the kits? And how much HK$ charged from BMWHK? Thanks.
