Impressions: '09 x-drive suspension
Just got back from 2 weeks in Europe driving my 335i x-drive sedan in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. I have to say, I loved it. The stock suspension wasn't nearly as bad as many complain about here on the forum. the ride height, while a little high for my taste, provided good comfort and smoothness on the roads. The handling was tight and inspired confidence at high speeds on the Autobahn and through the twisties in the Alps. A slightly more sporty suspension may have given me the confidence to push the needle a little further (over 130mph on the straights), but there is hardly a place here in the US where that will be possible anyway.
When I got back and drove my 2001 S4 w/ KW V3 on the NJ roads I felt like I was in a paint mixer (the roads here suck) and I was so wishing to be back in my 335 w/ the stock setup. Just my 2 cents. |

i think what people are referring to is a comparison between non-xi sport package vs. xi. Compared to RWD sport, it seems a little sloppy. but compared to most other cars....not so much. I actually had a RWD sport package loaner last week and could definitely tell the difference. It felt noticeable quicker too...which I thought was a little odd. I didn't think the 200lbs difference would really make much of a difference. But seriously, it made my xi feel sluggish by comparison.

I think this car feels great, even after 15,000 miles of hard driving. |

The XI sport package doesn't use stiffer suspension components, whereas the RWD sport package swaps out the stock suspension for a stiffer setup. I'd imagine a set of H+R springs would stiffen this up and drop it down a little too.

There is not sport suspension for the XI. If you want an upgrade, you have to go aftermarket. I installed KWv3, while it handles like a dream, ride has gone to hell, VERY firm, even adjusted to softest setting. Rolling on 20s as well though. I won't bring up the issue of the chirp we're trying to figure out. I still have stock suspension in the box, get tempted sometimes just to put it back on.
