Undercar NEON install questions...
Hi
I'm thinking of the install of undercar NEON in my 318i... But the idea was to install the ON/OFF button there where the buttons for the PDC (front) and so on are...(I have only the 2 buttons for warming up the sportseats there). So the button for my NEON lights would integrate in the interior... For that I have to buy some new console with the buttons... My questions are: Is something like that possible and what is the partnr.# of the console with all the buttons... İf someone of you guys installed NEON then please post some pictures... |

for the neon, i think you should put the wire from the dash board which you need to take out and work. My previous car which is civic si, my friend installed it for me and he did it from there.
I would recommend to visit local shop and do the installation. BMW is very sensitive on computer!

By the way though, putting neon lights under a car is kinda ridiculous. I mean, don't ya think? But, to each their own.

come on guys,
I only asked for advice not for your opinion... It doesn't matter what you think when you come up with such comments like that. My Question was is it possible? and I wanted to know the part number and not do you like it or not... I think most of you all didn't heard something about the word tolerance For those who don't know the reason I do it that way is that in Austria it's illegal to install neons... |

Honest answer:
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...48&hg=61&fg=25 These switches are all probably identical single pole single throw toggle type switches. In any case, neon probably draws a lot of current, so rather than pumping all of this electricity through the switch (it's probably not rated very high), make sure to use a relay. The relay allows you to control the large amount of juice using a smaller voltage circuit which includes your switch. Good luck. PS. This part looks a lot more complicated than I expected. I expected switches to fit in the blank spots like boards in the back of a CPU. Although it would be nice to have the switch here, it would be much much simpler and a lot less expensive ($5 switch at Radio Shack) to have the switch somewhere else. Splicing into that electrical ribbon doesn't seem like a very good idea, and it might not be straightforward which wire goes to which switch. If it were me I would put a single circular push in push out type button (possibly with a small LED in the middle to show on) maybe somewhere on the left near the light controls. Clean install, just one single hole. Try to hide it somewhere too so that if you ever sell the car there's not a hole in the trim.. This process and information learned could be used for any 12V accessory, so make sure to post pics and tell us how it goes..
