nav/ Idrive question
Hi I tried searching for this but I couln't find anything definitive.
Are there any functions that the Idrive allows you to access that can not be accessed some other way in the car? I would hope not but you never know. I read somewhere that you can get a digital speedo on the screen but my dealer said you can only get average speed and would have to keep hititng the button to get current speed. thanks |

I've never owned a BMW before, so I'm not familiar with the i-drive unit, but the nerd side of it appeals to me.
There's a .mac gallery floating around here that an AU user created harpoon, that might show some things...

I should say, I'm going to work to add speed camera POI's to the DVD as well, looks like a bit of work, but should be worth it.....

Still doing the reading, not going to start it until I've got an i-drive unit to play with.
If it works, i'll make it available

I know alot of the "dealer" programmable stuff can be done thought the i-drive such as how the lock react to fob buttons, follow me home lights, vent car timer, etc.
I know some if this can be down with one of the stalks but I'm not sure if everything can be done. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. I could be wrong...

There are some service menus you can get into in other BMW's that put up info on the digital screen in the instrument cluster, current speed, coolant temp, fuel consumption in lt/hr and other things. It involves holding buttons and turning the key on and off. But once you get to the digital speedo it only stays on for about 5 minutes then returns to normal settings. If you want a digital speedo get a navman and have it show the current speed.

Sounds great! Let us know how it goes. I had a quick look at www.pimpmynav.com over the weekend, could be a decent tool, although I'm not too knowledgeable in this area...
