Cosmetic Changes for 128i
I will have a 128 with Sport Package. What would be a cosmetic modification I might do if I had a bit of cash ?

Splitters
I'd like to put a set of carbon fiber splitters on the stock 128 bumper. I'm trying to work up the nerve to order the BMW Performance splitters and trying them out.

I believe they only fit the performance aero kit front end. I remember a comment where someone tried to put them on a stock 135i and they were too wide. A search would probably bring up the post (unless I'm imagining it). |

Yeah AndyM tried putting these on his 135 and it didn't work, but keep in mind the bottoms of the 135 and 128 are a lot different. In fact, you'll notice that the 135 sorta tapers up from the bottom, where the 128 is completely flat, perfect for bolting anything on below.
I went to my local deal and asked the parts guy if they would work on the stock 128. He didn't know, so he called someone from BMW while I stood there. He said the guy on the phone told him yes, they would fit on the stock 128. I can't vouch for this info, but that's what I was told. In looking at pics of the Tii and my car, it seems as though they just might fit on the small edges of the bottom of the 128. I really wish they posted the dimensions of the splitters and I could tell for sure. It would really seem like a waste of production time and money to make parts that would only fit on another part you had to buy. Doesn't seem like there would be a good chance of return. They should just include the splitters in with the Aero bumper if that's the case. |

Can one order the european M bumpers ? Those that can be ordered with the european diesel cars? They look like the bumpers of the 135 but with foglights.
I would be interested! |

Never mind it doesn't preserve the link. If you use the pulldown menus go to the 3-door 1-series (not the coupe), performance parts and arodynamics you will find 2 splitters. One for the euro M-package and a quite elaborate one for the regular bumper.

Speaking of the 128i Performance Aero kit...
The rear aero kit I ordered is now at the dealer along with my car. I have to wait for it to be painted but once it's on I'll post a couple pictures so you know exactly what it looks like. |

How much extra did your dealer charge you for the painting and installation?

Yes, just the rear aero kit and not the CF diffuser. The current assumption is that it's the same as the stock 135i rear but since there aren't any confirmed pictures of a 128i with that piece installed I'm going into this slightly blind. I'll try to swing by the dealership tomorrow in hopes of seeing it before they send it out for paint.
Price will obviously vary from dealership to dealership but the numbers I was given were: Rear aero kit: $337 Paint: $250 - $350 (Rough estimate based off what the shop they use charges for 3-series bumpers) Dealer install: $375 You could definitely save a few hundred dollars by shopping around a bit and doing the install yourself (it's not THAT hard) but I don't have a good place to do the work so it would be a hassle for me. |
