Lease Comparison
With all the talk that went on in February and March about how the 1 series cost as much to lease as a 3 series, I thought I would do a comparison between my car and an equally equiped 335i Cabrio.
Using the on line configurator with 0 down in the province of BC, these are the numbers; 135i Cabrio - $896 + 15% tax = $1135 335i Cabrio - $1030 + 15% tax = $1305 I think that a savings of $170 per month is worth the privilege of driving a 1'er, don't you?

In the C&D review they say the difference between a 135i coupe and a 335i coupe is a mere $6500 or something like that so BMW may have a hard time selling the 1 verus the 3. Since when is $6500 the loose change you find in your couch cushions?

I must agree - that is why I am leaning towards the 128 as I want a coupe and the figures speak for themselves:
Base Model 128 @ 6.9% lease rate - monthly payment $524.00 328 sedan @ 2.00% lease rate - monthly payment $555.00 328 coupe @ 3.90% lease rate - monthly payment $655.00 These payments are based on zero down and do not include the taxes or $2195.00 freight and PDI |

This is how it works out for me. All three cars have dakota leather, sport package, premium audio and navigation.
335i sedan ($58,900) - $770 / 39 mo. - If this car was priced with no options ($49,900) - $653 / 39 mo. - This essentially means (to me) that the 135 is about $80 - $100 too high on a 39 month lease. 335i coupe ($60,100) - $902 / 36 mo. (no 39 month lease) 135i coupe ($49,300) - $755 / 39 mo. I left out dakota leather on the 2.8l's below, all other options are the same (sport pkg, premium audio, nav)- just leatherette to keep the price down) 328i sedan ($47,900) - $615 / 39 mo. 328i coupe ($48,500) - $728 / 36 mo. (no 39 month lease) 128i coupe ($43,200) - $642 / 39 mo. (note: had to add premium pkg to get xenons) Quite interesting. There is no way I'd buy right now. Sure, the 335 coupe is $150~ more a month, but it's also $10,000 more and 3 months shorter term. Obviously the 135 and 335 coupe both do not represent much value right now. The only cars that make any sense (to me, at the current pricing above) would be the 335 sedan, 328i sedan and to a lesser extent, the 128i coupe. Another interesting thing: I'd consider the 128i excellent value for money if they'd allow xenons and sport seats to be added without adding their respective packages. I'd actually be quite content with the basic car and only those two options added.
