Armrest Cell Phone Cradle
For the sake of science, and because my dealership had no idea, i took apart my console to figure out what was needed to make the 1-series have a cell cradle for my iphone.
here is the part, with pics installed over on the m5 boards http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...d.php?t=112762 here are the pics of what i took apart: armrest piece just pops out with a small screwdriver on the side towards the back of the unit. The sad thing is that there is no wiring readily available. Guess i have to take more apart! The next piece pops off with a screwdriver somewhere in the middle of the little side-flap. Get it a good ways in there before pulling too hard to avoid bitching up the plastic. there is what looks to be a connector for the cradle as well as off the the left (with a bit of pink on it, second pic, an external antenna) So it looks like we need the cradle ($150), and the cable (dont know yet). But looks like it is available and not too hard to do. I will be speaking with the parts dept today to find out about that other cable now that i know it is prewired and just needs a couple parts. there was a previous thread on this but didn't get far: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3533 Kyle |

i just spoke with the guy in the parts dept. he doesn't have the cradle OR the adapter cable in the computer, although i played with the cradle yesterday, the 3-series one seems to work fine. but that CABLE is the problem right now.
can one of our european members call their dealer's parts dept and see if they can get the part number and cost for that little adapter dongle? if i can get a part number the dealer said they may be able to order it. kyle |

It seems to me kfiducia did all of the "hard work" already. $300 for a cradle and a wire? I'm not arguing that's what they are charging but it just seems high for me for the work kfiducia described.

My friend, I have no idea what you are doing but the 135i can interface with your iPhone already, the 135i already has a nifty pouch for Mp3 player/iPhone, etc. Hands free talking is easy. How you missed THIS, but I still think you can use the iPhone wielessly. |

larryn, thanks, i think this piece might be it:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...39&hg=84&fg=95 then the iphone cradle will snap into that to allow you to have more than one phone supported with a simple cradle swap. |

Anyone install the cradle yet?
Just curious if anyone was able to install the cell phone snap-in adapter yet? I see they list the adapter for 3 phones on the BMWUSA website, but I'm curious if we also need to install the base plate as well?
On another note, after a lot of research I'm 95% sure that the adapter kits for the E90's will work for the 1 series. I need an adapter for an old Motorola RAZR and found the part number for it on the OEM site. It was exactly the same as the 3 series part number. |

you need both parts (eject-box & snap-in). mine are both installed and it still doesn't work. dealer doesn't know why, hasn't been able to fix. still pending...
one thing to note, the parts don't fit exactly, there is a gap at the back that isn't filled. ill get a pic later for UL. |
