One of the things that ran through my mind was - the rocker panels are dripping in road slushies (that salt, ice, snow mixture) and I'm going to 'rotate' my 'Boston leather' encrusted door panels underneath the rockers? ; -)

you obviously weren't watching very closely. it appears that the rocker panel drops down and the door slides in above it.

still, there could be potential of getting your interior dirty, depending on all the mechanisms they use and how exposed the interior of the door gets while under the door.

either way, really sweet idea.

I've watched it and i think it looks like CGI. I'm sure the glass just seemed to dissapear in some clips! Magic...

Full credit if it works but im not so sure.

cool idea, but i wonder what happens in a crash, when the car's on fire, and you don't have electrical power to open the door?

I think the real problem is the loss of floor space where the normal door sill would be. I sketched it in red below. So the compromises seems to be a tubular floor, no door speakers and probably a thinner/flimsier door. I wonder how tight they can make it. I wonder about rattles and squeaks. I wonder if chassis rigidity is affected. Probably pricey, too -- car must get stripped down to bare frame. Very interesting, though! :w00t:

One of those cars were on ebay awhile back...

In the US too, that video looks like it was filmed oversea's...

The one on ebay said it was a concept car from Lincoln, not aftermarket...

Cool trick, but not going to happen on my car. If the idea for a door from the 1900's isnt broken, why fix it? I'm sure the installation will also add weight to the car. Granted it would be down low for a better center of gravity, I just dont have a problem with the doors I have...

That's retarded. Eliminate the B pillar? Structural rigidity will hit the crapper.

Ha, think back a bit further - the Kaiser Darrin - granted they fold into the bodywork horizontally - but there's very little new under the sun. ; -)
