So who is not ordering?

There are tons of threads on who is ordering, and where they are on the waiting list. I figure those of us not ordering the car need a place for some input as well. Give the reason as to why you are not ordering the car. For me it's because my G35 lease is not up until December and although I will be getting out of the lease early I have a wedding that we are planning in March. Bad timing (the wedding not the car release haha) Anyways due to that craziness and the fact that I don't want the first models in a new car (problems in the past, although not with BMW) I have decided to wait until June or July to pick up my car.

I am not convinced I want to give up my 330 for a 135. I'm going to wait to see one in the flash and take an extended test drive. Pricing, std. features and options will also play a huge roll.

1) My G coupe lease is not up until Aug next year

Lips, aren't you getting smacked financially by terming your lease early?....details please

2) I cant help feeling that buying the car 6 months after release I may get a better deal

3) I really want to look, feel, drive, smell it et al prior....I know I read deposits are refundable, but.....

4) I want to read reviews, see what others are saying first....As I've written before, this car better do 5.0 or better in a 0-60 or that could be a deal breaker for me....I'm fairly confident though it will....

It's not terminating my lease early. I will end up trading my car in when I am not upsidedown. I have done this many times before. All you do is negotiate the price of your new car or lease and then when you reach a satisfactory deal you say I will take the car home today but you must get me out of my vehicle. Then you negotiate that. The G holds it's value pretty well so the difference between what it's worth and what I owe is minimal and I have a dealer who is willing to work with me so I should be able to get out of it nice and clean.

2)Definitely agree with you there

3) Agree I have a hard time putting money down before I have even driven the car, now once I drive it then I am more then willing to put a deposit if I needed to order it.

4) 0-60 is overrated to me. I am at a point when as long as the car throws me back in my seat I am pretty content. Anything over 250hp now a days should do it in a sports car.

Pretty much sums it up for me. Not mention the fact that I just bought a new car... I am probably 2 years out on a 135i (best case scenario) where the deals will be considerably better.

Lips:amen to your reply to #4....but I think 5.0 is a 0-60 that will "take it to the next level" vs my G coupe...actually,how fast 25-80 mph is the figure I am most interested in, as that is real world entering I95 at full bore.....especially with the turbo, I'm looking for lack of turbo lag....all reviews and anecdotal evidence appears that this engine is completely devoid of that......by the way, have you experienced excessive brake wear and squeaking on your G?....I know the brake dust on the front wheels are pain in the a--...they replaced my front brakes under warranty maybe 8 months ago at 25k and I'm taking it in again tomorrow for oil and to check the brakes.....BTW I'm not hard on the brakes, I dont race up to lights and jam on the brakes, nor do i ride the brakes like our seniors do down here....also, what kind of tires are you using...replace stock?....I got 22k out of the original Michelins(miracle in S Fla-they use crushed sea shells in the roadway composite-the folks at tire Kingdom love it) and replaced with Yoko AVS ES100- love the look and feel of them.....

There are a few reasons I haven't placed an order, a couple have already been mentioned.

I really like my gto, but will not keep it past its warranty period which ends 1/08/09. It takes a long time for me to decide when it come to decisions I feel so passionately about (such as cars) so that is why I'm already putting a list together. The 135 is at the top of my list, but I think I would be doing myself a disservice is I did not go out and test drive all of the cars on my list. Think about it, why deprive myself of one of the best parts of the car buying experience.

That's a good point 128er......does anyone know when pricing will be out, or is this as much speculative as the pricing itself?

ya know, i'm so lathered up about this car, that if it is everything i've read about , WTF about 3-4k in price.....

food for thought: I just read an article in R&T about the Detomaso Pantera.....before emissions restrictions, The 351 Cleveland in the vehicle produced 0-60 times in the high 6s!!!!....amazing what we take for granted....The car sold at 1971 prices for just under 10k.....I can only guess that in today's $s, maybe the equivalent of $45-50K?...still, wouldnt mind having one....talk about a time capsule...that car is very "Clockwork Orange"

I am really excited about the 135i but the price has to be right. I own outright and will keep my 335i but am looking to add a sportier car to my lineup. If the price is within 2-3 grand of a used 911 turbo I may jump ship and go that route.

It is really too soon to tell.

I happen to know BMW very well and I chose to wait also. Which hurts my plan of starting the first "unofficial" 1 club of Central Florida..

I am going to wait till the newness wears off and I drive one. The pricing will play a big role in my decision as well, if it starts mid 30's then I will be looking at the 3 series and its competitors.

Your SWMBO needs convincing to go to Europe? Mine has been dragging me there every-other year for 12 years. Well, not dragging actually, mention Italy and I start salivating.

Shifter:

Given that the 135 lives up to all the hype with respect to looks and performance, and assuming a 38k price point for decently equipped, can you recall a new(not new in market, i mean not used) competing vehicle that even comes close???? I really think at that price there are currently no competitors.....

That's it exactly - it is an outstanding performance value (if it lives up to hype)

Oh no worries, so much is riding on this. I mean they are bringing the coupe and conv. It would be a disaster for them if it fails. These people know how to market themselves. We all seem to have fallen for it thus far...

waiting too long...

I am waiting as well, for a few different reasons:

1) I am in a lease right now that will take me until May of 2010. It is a Subaru Impreza (not WRX) 2.5i and it treats me well and is fun to drive so im ok with it i guess.

2) I am still in college until May of 2008 and depending on what job I get and how much I make off the bat, which im assuming wont be much.

3) Along with graduating and getting a new job I will be moving out soon and will not be able to afford a new car right now...much less a BMW.

Me getting out of my lease early is contingent on value of my Subaru and the job that I get out of college. We shall see what happens but im looking at 2010 before I can buy. 2 years after release, im hoping they will maybe have put in an LSD by then after all the requests or maybe they will have talked about an M-version more and it will be a definite yes or no!
