MPower, I had the exact same thought when I saw the new picture. I believe they are the exact same gas station.

In the "spy shot" you can see a round Mobile Oil sign with the Pegasus symbol on the left side pump and a round Route 66 sign on top of the right side pump, with a big round Coca-Cola sign to the right of both of those. I see all three of those in that same order in the new brochure shot. And, I seem to remember that one of the spy shots we saw of the car at that gas station was from a distance with a large photography reflection screen in the foreground obscuring part of the car. So it definitely appeared that the car was there as part of a shoot.

That is actually Monument Valley in Arizona up near Page, AZ I believe. I used to fly canyon tours when I lived in Vegas. Flew in/out of the single dirt runway airport many times, not a fun experience depending on the wind. You can see the Rabbit and Chief in the background. Known named monuments.

Uhmm....guilty. I think I was the person who started calling this set of pics "Mojave" also known affectionately on 1addicts to early members as the introduction to "Chucky", "Deadend Chick" and "Loser Surfer Guy", a kind of running inside joke.
Let's just say that there wasn't very much to talk about back then. A long discussion ensued if these were deliberately staged and leaked (my belief) or that the story of the hapless photog who snapped the photos and then beaten-up and never heard from again (the story that was passed along accompanying the pics) was true.

We used "Mojave" because of the earliest leaked photos in February were shot in a desert- & the setting was not identified.
You've cleared it up...and destroyed a myth. Thanks.:biggrin:
