Doing a little experiment for Xi owners... Updated
Xi owners get the shit end of the stick when it comes to suspension options we all know that. The H&R Xi sport springs look stupid because of the front rake, and they are the only option besides coilovers, which lots of people don't want.
I've said it in the past, and basically I believe that non-xi springs will fit on our xi shocks. I know another member tried to put non-xi shocks on his xi and those definitely don't fit, however I don't think the springs are very different. I've been waiting a long time to try this, but I was in no rush and wasnt gonna buy springs at full price only to find out they didnt fit. So I finally found a brand new set of non-xi H&R sports cheap locally the other day. I was planning on putting them on today but the roads are covered with snow and sand, and I don't feel like crawling under the car and getting sand dumped all over me everytime I take a bolt off. Plus 16 degrees doesnt make things any better. My only concern now, is that they are just going to give the same drop as the Xi springs. Looking at my springs, and pictures of Xi springs I've found online, the part number is different, but the number printed on the springs themselves is the same. The front springs are 29187 VA, and the rears are 29187 HA. So honestly I have no idea whats gonna happen, but im positive that at least they'll fit because they look almost identical to the Xi's. Ill probably wind up doing the install on monday if this damn weather gets better and ill let you guys know what happens. Last edited by S_M; 02-01-2009 at 02:53 PM.. |

do you have 19's?
i found that with 19's they feel bad only because of the lack of rubber cusion. im on 17's for the winter and its a big difference there. still, with the xi and sport springs, they will ride a little harder solely because with sportier suspension its going to be a little stiffer no matter what... thats the point. |

as for pot holes, no matter what you are running on an e90/92 those are gonna kill the suspension. the only remedy for that is to get a monster truck (or at least an X5). |

yeah the thicker RSB's really help keep the back end planted through corners but I feel like you'll feel a MUCH bigger difference with those with a RWD.... it'd still probably help but not for "cushioning" purposes.
