I am looking for a set of 50 year puddle lights for my x3m40i. Do the rear doors support the puddle lights as well? Would that cause interference with the carpet light? Any photos? Thanks!

My 22 has puddle lights on both front and rear as standard, along with the light carpet and door handle lights.

Depending on model year the option and harness was deleted making the job more complicated as a retro fit.

I think most X3 puddle lights have been out of stock for all of USA. I've been waiting few months. GetBMWParts said they are supposed to have them in November. I just checked Turner Motorsports and ECS Tuning both theirs's says December.

I have the BMW OE versions, and the front doors didn't cover the carpet lights.

Though it also looks like on the X5 the carpet lights start shining back further than the X3.

Do you have any puddle lights now? If not take a look under the door(s) and see if you have just an outline of where you'd need to cut the mounting hole. On my 23 m40i, there are no harness connections for the puddle lights, also no ambient lights for the cup holders.

Yeah, these don’t either. The front door wasn’t all the way open.

Check the aftermarket. Should be some there. These have been on my car since 2020 cost me about $25.00 at Amazon.

Remove the door cards on each door, install wiring for puddle lights if not present, cut holes in door cards to fit puddle lights, and attach lights to wiring.

I quite like these that njw1967 fitted, unsure how easy it was to instal but they look great.

Usually the “projection” puddle lights are an easy swap out of the standard puddle light unit, but may require slight adjustment to the cutout to fit properly.

Mine here...

https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...postcount=5228

I only went for fronts and left the rears as standard. Very easy to fit with a minor mod to the hole where the lights go (or rather, for the OEM units I purchased, I found a mod was required on my MY18 X3).

Like my 2nd post says, looks better with no carpet light.

Reviving an old thread, what is referred to as "carpet light" is that the striped lights reflecting on the ground? If so, which package option includes these on a 2021 X3 M40i Please? Thanks,

Yes, the carpet lights are the striped lights and the puddle lights is the M logo.

I cannot say what package was/is required to have them, but you'll know if you have them as you'll see a cutout in the side skirt just before the front door.

Good point. Mine were not the same until I fine tuned.

I was slightly bummed that my M40i isn’t equipped with puddle lights. I briefly considered retrofitting them.

I’m not clear about one detail: what would need to be cut to install them? Would it be sheet metal of the door?

It’s the bottom of the interior door panel. There may even be a blank slot in there now.

IIRC the area where the light should be is marked on the plastic but not cutout.

Is it standard to have a ready wiring harness for connection to Puddle Lights behind the cutout?

No, the lack of supply of wiring harnesses are why the puddle lights were deleted.
