What are some of the benefit or advantage of the Remote 3D View?
I can't seem to find any practical use case for this feature since it's just a static snapshot at the moment we requested a view.
It doesn't record anything, notify me when someone is around, tell me when my vehicle gets pushed/moved, etc. Seems pretty useless to me besides showing off to friends and family sometimes lol How do you use this feature? Interested to learn how this feature is being used by others in the community. |

Only true use case I see, is perhaps if your car is far away and you want to see its surroundings, i.e weather or if anything has moved around it etc... not really much else.

It was just a gimmick for me.....until my X3 was stolen. And during the entire time it was gone, I was able to access the 3D view which was utterly fascinating and horrifying at the same time. And ultimately, being able to access the cameras remotely led to me being able to get the car back because I was able to see the license plate of the car parked behind mine, provide that to the police, who looked up the address of that vehicle owner and cross referenced it to the 3D camera view to verify that my car was indeed parked on the street where the owner of the other car lived. And then they sent a tow truck to retrieve my car. TLDR: Remote 3D view is super useful if your car gets stolen.

Ok, other than for what happened to debaserx3 I agree that it seems gimmicky and I never use it. If you could actually get a live view of what's happening around the car that might be interesting as opposed to a static view of what was happening 2-3 min prior

Yeah, my wife left the key in it while parked in our driveway. In her defense, she's super OCD and I can honestly say I don't ever remember her leaving the keys in the car before. She had a bunch of stuff she was carrying in and forgot to go back and get her purse and the car key. We live in what I thought was a safe area but it only takes the right confluence of a moment's forgetfulness and bad people looking to take advantage of that. I couldn't track the car with the app because the thieves know what piece of the car to rip out to disable the telematics. They did that immediately, no tools needed.

Good for impressing easily-impressed friends I find it takes too long to generate imagery to be worthwhile, so haven't paid to renew the subscription.
Though now BMW Aust has bundled it with some other things as part of some package, I might end up getting it eventually.

I've found it useful for when the car's been valet parked, just to see where they actually left it. It's also useful when the car's at the dealership overnight and they've assured me that it's been stored inside when in fact it hasn't. I have my own reasons to care about both of those things, and I get it if they're irrelevant to other folks.

I use it mainly to make sure the Missus has parked in a "sensible" spot away from other cars, in work and out shopping. I also used it quite a bit recently when the car spent nearly a week at the dealers because of puncture/recovery after hitting a pothole.
Be good if they could provide access to do a 20secs recording like the app in the car, and allow playback, or even access into the ACE 3.0 lol |

Wherever the module for the LTE connection (which sends the remote view images back to the BMW mothership) is located is different than where the GPS module is located. So when they ripped the GPS module out, I could still get the remote view and also flash the lights and beep the horn. While the car was gone, I wasn't sure if when I asked for the horn to sound or lights to flash that the car was actually *doing* it, but I sent commands to beep the horn many many times a day anyway, hoping the thieves would get freaked out or when the car was parked it would draw attention from passers-by. Also, f*ck those guys. I hope it at least annoyed them. When I got the car back, I verified that it was indeed working so I hope they were at least a little annoyed.
As a side note, I think the only reason I got the car back was that I had two Apple Air Tags in the car which allowed me to follow it's adventures minute by minute, and I relentlessly called the police in every town the thieves drove through. On day 3 of the theft I enlisted the help of a family friend who is a police officer and they called in a favor to get it towed from where it was parked before it started moving again. So +1 for Apple Air Tags, I would highly suggest stashing one or two in your BMW. |
