Look closely. I determined this by doing a screen recording of the whole affair.

Quit your MyBMW app. Start recording. Open the app and click on Locate My Vehicle. With mine it (quickly so that you can hardly see - thus the record) starts in Berlin, zooms out, pans across to UK and zooms in to my house. Every single time.

I wonder where the journey starts on other apps in Europe, and wider afield? Surely in the US and further afield it cannot start the journey in Das Vaterland and pan across?

UK owner here, mine does start in Berlin, haven't really cared where it started before, I just thought it was zooming in from outer space.
One more thing to brag about and show off to friends

I will add to what I said.
My car is in the body shop at the moment for some dent and scratch fixes. When I open the app to view the location it starts at my current location, not Berlin, then when I click car location it moves from my house to the car located at the body shop.
So I guess when you are a fair distance away from the car, the app will not start in Berlin? Hmmm.
Someone else might want to give it a go. Go for a long walk and try to locate your car.

Mine starts showing the map near the coast of Senegal then moving southwest thru the Atlantic all the way home. Before showing the coast of Senegal it shows a blank screen which I guess is the European part of the voyage, that was too fast to the map to completely load.

Glitch or German engineers playing tricks on us?

It works for me when I force quit the app and then reopen. I guess it's the homing beacon to the mothership.
