Audio from phone via USB?

Has anyone gotten this to work? I understand that the sound quality would be better with a wired connection compared to BT, but when I connect my Pixel it says USB device not recognized. I went and changed the mass storage settings to file transfer, but still nada.

Maybe the secret is using the arm rest usc-b instead of the cup holder usb. The arm rest seems to work.

I assume this will work with CarPlay off? Because I thought CarPlay is wireless only?

Mine works even if my phone is connected to CarPlay. It shows up as a separate Media source in the list.

OK, scratch that on my earlier post. I turned off the BT thinking I'd force it to connect via cable and then discovered it was connected via wifi. When I disconnected the wifi from the car I went back to no connection.

I'll probably post this twice - for folks using USB C in the center console, is your device formatted FAT32 or NTFS? I have a SanDisk dual stick, when I plug it into the USB port in the front it works fine, all my music is there. When I flip it and use the USB C port, nada. Doesn't even recognize the device being present.

I'm just trying to use Spotify, etc from my phone. I can't even get it to recognize AA. Unrelated to your question though I think.

Unrelated, maybe. But here's something to add to the mix. This is regarding the USB stick in the USB C port in the center armrest. I tried both FAT32 and NTFS formats and the USB C in the car doesn't recognize it. It is an odd stick, it's USB A at one end and USB C at the other, so I thought maybe the stick wasn't working. Then I plugged the USB C end into my phone and everything appeared. Plugging in the USB A end in the front port, everything works fine.

I'm wondering if in my car that USB C is only good for charging, which would well and truly rot. Hmmm, think I just answered my own question.

Page 293 / 294 of the Owner's Manual:

- A USB port is located in the center armrest.

Properties:
▷ USB port Type C.
▷ For charging mobile devices.
▷ Charge current: max. 3 A.

Notice that "Data Transfer" is missing.

The front port:

A USB port is located in the center console.
Properties:
▷ USB port Type A.
▷ For charging mobile devices and for data
transfer.
▷ Charge current: max. 1.5 A.

Oh well, that's that I guess.

I have a 1TB SSD (Western Digital) in the USB-C under the armrest and iDrive7 reads all my music perfectly.

LCI vs non-LCI? AU market vs US market? All I can say is what I'm seeing jives with my owner's manual. Unfortunately.

Interesting. From my 2022 owner’s manual. Says data transmission. I guess maybe this is another 2023 supply chain issue??

Just another "enhanced" benefit for the 2023's. The ones with the 2k base price increase.

Aus market, but others on this forum with US spec cars have the same deal.
It's pre-LCI.

I wonder how many 2023s will have it since it actually made it into the owner's manual.
