Here's the nicest winter tire solution I've seen so far.

My M will be driven unless snow is predicted or when there's salt or salt remnants on the road.

i just ordered the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25. Guy at tirerack reccomended them. The tread is REALLY meaty. I bought a set of brand new 18 inch bmw tires and wheels on ebay for 1700 shipped. i sold the rubber for $600 before i even got the tires. You can get knock-offs for a little cheaper but i bought m6 replicas a few years back and was disappointed so i spent a little extra. I paid about 900 for the snows, 1100 for the rims and 200 to have em mounted. a little expensive but the car will still look stock.

I ordered Bridgestone Blizzaks LM-25 as well but I got them in 19"s so that I don't have to change my OEM 19" wheels. I spent $1100 on the tires... problem solved.

It's still in storage. Haven't felt the need to put them on yet as it is still high 40s, 50s in the last few days.
I don't see any problem with them unless you go on deep snow, because the narrower the tires, the better it is in snow. But the 19 inch winter tires come in very limited sizes and some of them are broader, 245 - 265ish |

Hmm, so you didn't put Winters on your car?
Perhaps that is the way to go with a performance car in an area that gets only a couple days of snow during its coldish winter. Maybe I'll just buy all-seasons as a "winter" tire.

will the all seasons really do all that well in the snow? i guess if you are just looking for cold weather traction they are ideal.

Wouldn't they be decent enough on the snow or below freezing temps to get around? I mean, that's what most cars come with.

Uhh, i had all-seasons as standard equipment on my e46 325xi, those things didn't stop me! Lateral traction was fine, but hit the brakes and hold on to your hats!

I've had several rear wheel drive cars (m3, 335i, 911, 135i) and snow tires are a must. I almost got stuck last week when it snowed 4" in northern nj. I left my office early and I only had a slight hill near my house. I stopped at the signal and then proceeded to slip and slide sideways and backwards. I turned off my DSC and floored it timing the light. Whew, got home safe. I was kicking myself for not putting on my snow tires.
Btw, saw an ad in 201 magazine for a snow tire storage service called Switch and Store (www.switchandstore.com). I found some forum postings in a competing forum about them as well. Looks promising. |

You left your house with summer tires on, when snow was predicted?
