Window smashed by vandalism, leather seat damaged
Last night lots of cars in the parkade was broken in. My car looks like this. Although I was careful removing the glass, the lower half still fell inside. After vacuuming, I found multiple cuts to the merino leather. Will the insurance likely fix the seat? I'm very pissed, I always take good care of the leather, just bought a Swissvax leather kit last weekend.

I would hope they would, but your insurance company is the best place to ask that question. No one on the forums have any idea what type of insurance you have or what the tiny print say, so they can't answer your question.

I know, I'm here to seek comfort. If anyone had their insurance repair/replace the seat for a glass claim before, it means there is precedence.

I don't know the insurance types in Canada, but in the US if you have comprehensive insurance they will cover any damage due to vandalism (after you pay your deductible).

Did you not have tinted windows? I think that usually helps keep the glass from shattering all over. It also helps to keep prying eyes out of your car -- although the first thing to do, to avoid a break-in, is to make it look like there's nothing in there in the first place.

File a police report and insurance will cover it. If you had cameras in the garage, that's all the evidence they need. Friend had someone scratch his car up overnight. They saw on camera someone doing it (not who) to a bunch of cars and covered fixing.

I would assume that it would cover all damage caused by an act of vandalism, but what governs are the specific terms of your policy issued by your ins co, not anyone else's. |

If you make a glass only claim, it is not likely they would cover other damage. you would have to make a claim against your Comprehensive side of your policy (at least in the U.S.) for them to cover body damage including interior.

Sorry to read of this. If that's the only damage to the seat you got lucky!

Sorry to hear/see this
Just to comfort you - be aware that those minor cuts in the leather can be repaired very successfully, from what I've seen online (in case your insurance does not want to sponsor a new seat). So head-up!

So Sorry to hear this, but I think Insurance should cover it as long as you have comprehensive. Like Skyhigh mentioned, small cuts like yours can be fixed very well. Good Luck!
