I changed my engine oil with Mobil 1 0W30
Did I do something stupid?
I couldnt get my oil changed at bmw service centwr since I dont live nearby a dealership. Did I do something stupid??? The guy at Mobil 1 oil change place seemed like they didnt have much experience with bmws in general. |

0w30 is just a little thinner than 5w30, which I believe is recommended by bmw (at least it is for my engine).
Mechanically it's fine. However, if it is not the recommended oil, it may become an issue should engine warranty issues pop up. Unfortunately, I dont know the recommended oil for your engine in your country, you can find it in the manual. |

I have a BMW X5 xdrive40i and it says 0-20 BMW approved oil.
I have read many comments on several site and they have used oils like Mobil 1 0-20 and 0-30 without issues. (in a canadian winter, its a grade to have) But they recommend changing non-approved brands every 5k. Its not that easy finding a dealership to buy oil and usually cost and arm and a leg per bottle. But if you want to stay BMW recommended oil, there are parts sites where you can order the approved oil at roughly $10 bottle. (like: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...212461988~oeb/ ) When my warrantee is over, that's what I'm doing. |
