I have a 17 340i and for some reason CarPlay doesn't always connect automatically when I start the car. I get an error message "Unable to establish connection" and when I retry I get the same message. Does anyone know if I'm doing anything wrong or have a certain setting wrong?

I think you should update nbt if nothing changes you should take a look at wifi antenna
