Alpine Retrofit Audio - Issue with Start/Stop

Good morning everyone,

I have been the proud owner of the Luxury 320d GT F34 2019 since last month.
As all BMW cars in Europe with Basic audio, I found the sound muffled and too low, I followed all the advices on this forum to install the Alpine Retrofit kit.
Of course I coded with Bimmercode to remove the basic EQ and selected the 4 HiFi parameters (Hifi, Extrernal Amplifier and 2 others).

Small question though: The whole system seems to work but I noticed a problem yesterday while driving.
When restarting the engine in Start/Stop, there is a half-second cut off and it is perceptible.

Has anyone had this problem before?

I checked the wiring harness, changed the location of the ground point under the carpet, but I wonder about this famous Z4 terminal where we have to connect the positive cable in the instruction book. I didn't find it.
So I wired on the B+ for jump starts.
It's the only point that looked like the drawing.
If someone could tell me more about the Z4 terminal because I think it no longer exists on the LCI models.

Thanks in advance.

I continue my investigation.

I found a photo on an old post with the Z4 connector (+12V).
Unfortunately, I don't have it (the engineers must have modified the recent F3x).

So I plug it to the B+ Jump Start.

Could that be my problem?

Depending on the state of charge of the battery the power management will shut down some systems when the car restarts, to insure there's enough juice available for the starter motor. That said, I'm curious why you'd power the amp from under the hood rather from the fuse box in the trunk. It also looks like your wire gauge is much too small.

1- I just follow the official installation instruction from BMW.
2- The red cable is the one sold with the Retrofit kit. Its length is about 1 meter or less. BMW Alpine Amp is small, 210w RMS.

I'm not familiar with that kit, AFAIK no US F30 come with the Basic radio.

Hi,

I continue my investigations.

I have received the updated "Installation Instruction" and I was right, the Z4 terminal doesn't exist anymore and we have to connect to the X2 Jump Start.

But that doesn't solve my problem.

Not sure if you ever got this rectified...but I recently did the Alpine retrofit in my F30 and the sound is so much better than that base audio system....

But my problem is when I start my engine the door speakers stop playing.and only the base works.

The door speakers won't work again unless I allow the amp to fully turn off and then back on.

Any ideas?

You have to find a 12v tap point that isn't powered off by the ASS when the car stops or starts. Since BMW doesn't see this as a problem (I'm sure their executives don't have base audio in their company cars) you're on your own to find one, unless someone else chimes in.

Thank you...I solved my issue by running a direct line to the battery... Solved.. I too followed the instructions to the letter and was confused to find that the Instructions were incorrect.

Cheers

I assume you fused that line. Is the Alpine amp switched? If not it could kill your battery.
