BMW Leather

Can anyone tell me what Dakota leather is? I just realized that BMW gives different names to the leather in different cars and I was wondering if there really is a difference in the leathers? Are these universal names in the leather industry or just names that BMW is arbitrarily deciding on?

Lol pretty funny, come to think of it my last car had Montana leather.... I'm seeing a trend here. Maybee BMW names it after which region has given up its cows in the name of luxury seating that year

The bad thing about leatherette is that it doesn't "breathe" as well.
I've driven cars with it, and my back always tends to get a bit sweaty, etc.

Plus side, doesn't crack as easy.

Agreed. Although leatherette is easier to care for and more practical if you have children spilling juice or ice cream on the upholstery, it doesn't feel as nice. You get what you pay for.
