Backup camera not working

I have a 2016 428i with a backup camera that shows black screen and no image when backing up. Parking sensors function correctly and display a visual obstacle representation as expected.

I ordered a replacement camera unit and installed, but issue remained. Took the car to the dealership for diagnostics and was advised that backup camera module (p/n 6653-6-994-555) needs replaced.
Quoted over $1400 for replacement.

I can get a used module online for a fraction of that, but dealership mentioned that they do not want to deal with used modules because from their experience most of BMW modules cannot be reprogrammed.

They could not tell if this particular module can or cant be programmed, seemed like they just wanted to sell a new one no matter what.

But is this event correct that most of the used modules cannot be programmed for a different car? I assume they have to do some sort of programming with a new module, so that means it can only be done once?

I came across this thread where someone was essentially doing what i need, recoded the camera module via some software. (https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1620283&page=1)

This leaves me some hopes

BMW cannot program a used module, that's right.
But the TRSVC (camera module) can very easy programmed with E-Sys.
So you can buy it and you have to search for a coder or you try it yourself.

Thanks for the reply, I will try to do it myself then. Is there any aspects i need to know ahead of time to NOT brick up the replacement module? Or do i need to save coding from the original one?

I got this cable kit off ebay, is this all i need to have to get it coded?

Thanks!

The cable looks good.
You still need E-Sys and the psdzdata Lite.
In E-Sys NEVER push the button "Code Default Values"!
No save coding from the original one needed.
The process is very well described in the topic you linked above.

I just got a replacement module from ebay, installed it and it is working "right out of the box" without any coding. But if i connect my scanner, TRSVC module spits out following errors:
-no current encoding stored(800BD1)
-control unit not coded for the vehicle(800BD4)

How long can I drive without properly coding it? Should I even do it if everything seemingly work fine without it? (i dont want to mess it up trying to code it incorrectly, lol)

If everything works, you can leave it that way.
But at some point it may also stop working.
Then you can still code it.
