Mirror Glass

Also, on another note Guys. Regards F32 / F33.

Does anyone know how to get the mirror glass out of the housing without breaking it?

(In need to replace the motor)

Be careful, if it’s an auto dim mirror then they cost mega bucks and a few have posted here after breaking it.

I took mine out, very carefully, and it broke... Mine is auto dim / dip model and the best price non-used was about $400. Be careful!! It is in there really, really well. It should be easier to detach than it was so it does not crack.

I was able to pop mine out pretty easily quite a few times. You just need a plastic trim pry tool. Angle the mirror(s) all the way up first, and then pry from the bottom out. When you angle them up, it creates a gap at the bottom and makes this easier. Youtube videos help as well

I have a full trim removal set and did the same. Mine was really in there. My auto dim version has a big circle on the back with many plastic pieces that insert. The middle part came loose pretty quick. It was the left and right sides of the circle that were pretty stuck. This put a lot of pressure on the glass and was why it eventually cracked.

Maybe the non-dimming are easier? I have done a lot of trim work in the past, and have never had the issues I had with the mirror.

I was able to remove my auto dim mirror twice without cracking them...both driver and passenger. Kies Motorsports video explains how I did it but I used a wider trim removal tool

Mine are auto dimming and heated as well. One wiring harness insert, and two other separate wire inserts on the back of the mirror. Maybe climate plays a role.

Had the glass off on my auto dim/heated multiple times as well with no breakage

Important when using plastic pry tool to pry under edge of glass at center directly under motor ONLY - do not pry at outward edges of glass

And a LARGE surface area to distribute the force.

There's no need to remove the glass to get the cover off. Use a pair of trim removal wedges and it will easily pop off.

Baby it's cold outside down here in the North San Diego Coast

Seems like some are just in there more than others. That was the video I used, which was very helpful. I guess he was right that many will still break even when following that procedure. Luck of the draw I guess. Good to know she was built well

I JUST removed my mirror caps to replace them. I didn't have to remove the glass at all. I heated the entire mirror first with a heat gun and slid an old credit card up from the middle of the mirror caps and worked side to side. They popped right off and no broken tabs. Don't mess with the glass, not worth it.

Use a plastic pry tool on the centre top or bottom and not the outer edges. There is less support from the backing plate on the outer edges and you can crack the glass.
Also I would slide some paper between or mask off the plastic surround trim as when you pry the glass can scape the surround plastic paint.

I removed both mirrors to put on M caps. I used the plastic trim removal tool as a few others have said. It was quite easy with no issues.

Got these a year ago because of the wide angle. Very cheap but very good quality. They are heated but not dimming. Cant say I miss the auto-dimming option of the oem mirrors. Still have the originals in perfect shape but would not put them back on. I just love the wide view . In case you broke a mirror , these could make a great temp/permanent replacement.
