Lightbulb Performance Mods 530i B48 Engines

So my factory warranty is running out soon and I'm looking into doing a few performance mod to my car (2017 530i M Sport).

There are lots of success stories on 540i & M550i performance mods but I rarely came across any 530i owners' shared opinions on what they've done to their vehicles. So if anyone here has done anything to their 530i to increase performance then I'd love to learn a thing or two from you please.

To break it down, what are your recommendations on the below categories based on your own experience? I'm only after opinions on performance mods but if it comes with improving the looks of the vehicle too then I'm all ears Thanks guys!
  • Chip tuning (Piggy-back, ECU swap, Remapping):
  • Air intake (eg. K&N drop in filter, pod filter):
  • Exhaust (Whether custom job, full system, muffler delete):

I also have a 2017 build 530i B48. M Sport
Mine is brand new, was compliance plated July 19. So still under warranty.
It’s just clicked over 2200 Km’s

I have asked around for performance mods. Have had many V8 modded Holdens.
I decided to do an ECU remap. Have been told it’s more custom to your actual engine.
Put it in yesterday for a retune but they have found out it has a different ECU that the program can’t read. Someone in Italy is writing a program to read the ECU.

Anyway, the place I’m getting it done at said they can do intakes, better cooling systems, retune, exhaust and a list of other stuff to the car.
Join the BMW owners Australia FB page.
There is a couple of places in Sydney that can do it.

Check out the video on this page:
https://venturatuning.my/

It’s a G30 530i B48
Can do 0-100km in 5.2

Go JB4 - you'll get another 30 - 50HP out of it - 10 minute install.
Get K&N filter - maybe another 3 - 5 HP - Dont bother with a conical filter of sorts - waste of money.

Keep it simple - its a low performance 4 banger, not much more you can squeeze out of it. The 530 is NOT meant to be pushed and I would be cautious in doing anything too radical.
ECU retune will get you up to 100 hp - your now at or slightly above a 540 stock yet you have significant risk of breaking something in the motor.

Dont mess with the exhaust unless you want it to sound like a Honda Rice Burner - you wont get anything performance wise and will be laughed at.

If you already have the MPerformance Package then go to RW Carbon they have some really nice upgrades to make the car look bad ass. Throw some 19s or 20s on their too.

Totally agree. A good tune and you’ll have a low 5sec car.
My mechanic says the B 48 is safely capable of more.
Not bad for the economy of a 4cyl.
My last VF V8 did 0-100 in 4.5
The videos I’ve seen on the exhausts they all sound shit on the B48.
I’ve already got the full BMW M performance carbon kit installed on mine.
It was on it when I got it.
I threw on some 19” Asanti wheels.
And I’ve had the engine cover hydrodipped

Have seen plenty of guys lowering Springs too

Okay so I'm going with Racechip GTS Black since they have a dyno run video with some good figures on a 530i to back up their claims.

Exhaust wise, I've seen a video from a member here who had his 530i's muffler deleted and it sounds awesome.

K&N drop in filter

Aluminium chargpipe since the piggyback will increase boost and it concerns me deeply having to run the extra boost on the stock pipe

Tell me how the GTS black goes. I was seriously thinking of getting one.
Do you have the link to the dyno video?

Will the Racechip change the sports dials to read the extra Kw Tq?
Currently the Kw dial only goes to 200 and the Tq to 400

I don't think any piggyback does that. Although Racechip does say that they will incorporate a firmware update later on which allows driver to change map from the digital dashboard via the car controls without having to use an app or phone. Interesting....

I installed Dinan on 530i, CEL came on, power dropped down to 150 hp.....

Dinan could not fix, refunded. Back to stock.

I could not find a tune from a reputable company such as AC Schnitzer.

The car is out there since 2017 and no tune ...

My 530i has a different ECU that cant be overwritten or something.
One tuner tried but standard software won’t work

I just removed the cat and slapped the bootmod3 stage 2 map and I'm currently at 310 KM / 470NM at RON98. The 0-100 sprint dropped to 5.2s.

Not bad.

Thanks for sharing, that’s in line with the expected gain for 530i

Got a different downpipe, but also a decat one. Car is much louder, pops are more pronounced, but the exhaust drones a bit at higher speeds (150km/h+). I often drive long distances with people in the backseat though, and they don't complain.

(maybe because I can't hear them?)

Got a custom downpipe done by a small local company. The exhaust smell is noticeable, but only on the outside. Can't really smell it inside, unless the car is parked idle for a few minutes.

As for tune, yup - I'm on Bootmod2 Stage 2 AGG 93 OCT at the moment. You'll need to map the ECU after installing the downpipe to trick the car that cat is still there, which is a good excuse to get a tune map while you're at it.

It's all a bit of a hassle, but it's well worth it in my opinion - makes the car much more fun.
