G20 roof bars options?

Anyone got experience of G20 compatible roof bars? Ideally don't want to have to fork out £170 for the official BMW ones.

I've tried the Halfords configurator but it doesn't recognise my reg or the model. May have to pop in this week and see someone.

I've got a 330e but presuming it's the same fitting as any G20.

Thanks!

Thule also do a set, but if you don't have rails £170 doesn't sound like a terrible deal. Thule RRP is 200+

Ended up getting these bars, £118 inc. next day delivery and roof bar locks:

https://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rb...7B.Rf3G%2C9oFS

Fitted today and they're pretty decent quality, especially for the money.

The order contains:

1 x CRUZ (35) 118cm alu bars (2) Airo FIX DARK 118, no. 925-713 (BMW 3 series four door saloon (2019 onwards))

1 x CRUZ OptiPLUS FIX fitting kit no. CR6032 (936-032) (BMW 3 series four door saloon (2019 onwards))

1 x CRUZ set of four identical lock barrels no. 932-014 (BMW 3 series four door saloon (2019 onwards))

Thanks for posting this Tricky6, still looking for the best option for taking my Thule bike carriers. Still have the Thule Aero Edge bars from the Mercedes but the rear bar is too short for the BMW plus I would need a Thule fitting kit - which are not cheap. Your bars look an excellent alternative

What's the wind noise/fitting time like?

I've never used this type of foot (last cars have all had fixed longitudinal rails).

Will report on the wind noise later after a trip, have only pottered into town since fitting.

First timing fitting will take longer as you work things out, tap the existing mount points to remove paint (tap included), get the bars aligned to the car etc (they slide to accommodate different vehicles) but I reckon once you've got them set up then < 10 mins to fit. Probably took me 30 minutes but made some school boy errors like mounting the brackets the wrong way round the first time!? Doh. The instructions are actually pretty clear.

I was amazed at how much Thule (and even Halfords/Exodus) charge for fitting kits, £40-60+ for a few brackets and bolts. The Cruz fitting kit was only £20 so cheap to move to another car in the future. There are a few bits where the quality perhaps reflects the price (e.g. the rubber surround could be a bit nicer) but I can't see the cost/benefit of paying £250+ for a Thule system over this, unless you like the name on the bars ;-)

So there is a bit of noise but I've not had roof bars before so no idea if it's normal/good/bad. Some generally swooshing and a bit of high pitched whine but nothing that isn't drowned out with the stereo on.

In the Cruz kit did you get the sacrificial self tapping bolt to cut the paint out of the threads ?

if so can you measure this for me to see if its an M7 or M8 size?

My Cruz set for the f30 fit my G20 - but just need to source some M7 bolts to fit the G20's roof now...

Are all the brackets and things exactly the same? The Cruz fitting kit containing all brackets, bolts etc. was only £20 and seemed to be G20 specific...

I took my f30 configured bars and they are the same span as the G20's roof and look the same angles on the base plates as the old car.

but to be 100% sure we need a side by side comparison...

the new G20 kit will have the new M7 bolts and the plastic 'boot' that I don't have on the F30 kit

Just looking at your photos Tricky6, the bars look smart in black and I like your colour, less omnipresent than my blue but are your roof bars the wrong way round? They should be like an aircraft wing - tapered towards the back, this might reduce the wind noise that you have experienced.

I did wonder about this when fitting. The instructions weren't that clear. I figured it was more like a spoiler to reduce lift. Will try it the other way around and see! If I take off and crash I'll blame you ;-)

😊

Hopefully you will not take off, but I will blame the extra boost facility rather than the lift

Bon voyage, I think the whistling might be the generous top box 😳

Where are you off to? Autumn holiday?

Turns out the whistling was that I hadn't fitted some blanking strips under the bars. All fine now and very quiet, even with the roof box on.

We went to Turkey, 27-28C and blue skies every day. Not bad for this time of year!? Roof box is much needed though, only got two large suitcases and our hand luggage in the boot!
