What is the 3.0si/N52 motor capable of?
So we all know everyone just lovesssssssss the e46/e86 ///Ms and their 3.2/S54 motors and the power it cranks out but Im curious to know how much one could get out of the si. How much could it benefit from mods/tuning? Anything worth putting the work into?
And dont say just go get an ///M. Im just curious.

Check out ESS's website, they have SC systems for the N52.

For a street-driven car in the US, gears are the best bang-for-buck mod out there, since with our low speed limits we tend to be more focused on brief bursts of acceleration for passing and merging than sustained triple-digit speeds. Overall, the best initial mods are always stickier tires, lighter wheels, brake pads with better bite, gears, and that old standby driver improvement.
But most people want to quote bigger horsepower numbers and have a louder car - the automotive equivalents to a fat wallet and a boob job/sock down your pants. Hence the continued success of chips, exhaust and intake mods - along with get rich quick schemes, and breast/penis enlargement drugs. |

http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/home.php http://www.g-power.de/ If yours is a standard SI upgrading to a 3.64 from the automatic would be a upgrade to think about. As with most aftermarket hopping up the motor with aftermarket cams, reworked heads and manifold intake Im sure would bring the hp up to the 300rwhp mark, but $ wise its not economical. A bolt on like a low boost supercharger would be a great add on. If you look at the M, its bascially what you are asking, a punched out 3 liter with massaged race parts. The Ms 330hp is not the upper end of the spectrum for the inline 6, its just the drivability that BMW wanted because its going to be driven on a road, not exclusivily a track car. 400hp is the upper end of the inline 6 in race prepped na cars. Boosted, I wouldnt know, but I assume adding a low boost 4.5-6lbs of boost, intercooled if you could Im sure the Si motor would churn out close to 400 crank hp reliably, which is the key. other options to consider are having someone remap the computer here are some other sites that offer it specifically for the Si: http://www.hs-elektronik.com/datenbl...5ps-315nm.html http://wetterauer.de/w_datasheet/datasheet.php?id=1042 Hope this helps a bit Last edited by Z4coupe; 08-10-2008 at 01:30 PM.. |
